Dear posters,

I think its wonderful to have people from different walks of life, to be able to come here and look at others situations with a different set of eyes. its great!

On to my question, I was left wondering what each and every one of you do for a living?

Take me as an example: I am a medical interpreter for 4 different languages.

And you?

This is an oldddd thread... I'm going to bring it back to life :)

Okay, so, I'm 18, no kids (yet) and single. Have just finished college, I studied Media. I plan to go to Uni but not for a few years because I'd like to travel...But I need to find a full time job first! Also hoping to move abroad in at least my twenties. Currently working part time in a shop. I live and have always lived in England (unfortunately). As you can tell my love for England isn't that great!

Have seen some of Europe, and went to New York this year :)

I don't speak any other language, but I'd like to learn at least one other, preferbly Spanish as it would be most useful, then I can learn Italian after :)

Reading the other posts, rhytmandblues, I'm INTJ also, and I'm not particularly intelligent, nor consider myself a perfectionist, but everything else is about right. So for those who know what I'm on about, you'll know what type of person I am, in general. :)

Anyway that's enough of me!

A reader, anonymous, writes (11 November 2008):

Ok the statistics. I am never married, just turned 52, the oldest of two sisters, and my father's daughter, and my mother's ally. I grew up in a tempermental head strong family and am made of steel, I guess you could call me a steel magnolia as I am described by relatives.

I have had very long term friendships and love relationships, but I have been dodging bullets all of my life. I am an INTJ on the Myers Briggs personality scale and therefore am about 1% of the population with this personality....some famous INTJ's, Arnold and Maria Swarzeneggar, Dan Akroyd, Katie Couric, Lance Armstrong, President JFK, Chevy Chase, Martina Navratilova, Richard Gere, C., Everett Koop (surgeon general) General Collin Powell, General Ulysess S. Grant, Thomas Jefferson.

You would think in the presence of such greatness that I would have raked up there with them....but I have lived a modest life. I grew up in a small midwestern town (have you heard of Brad Pitt?) and I had college educated parents and my father was an entreprenuer. I graduated college during the recession of the 80's and moved to Texas where the oil industry was booming, then I experienced the oil bust in the mid 80's and moved back to my midwestern home state to open my own business which I ran for 9 years...got tired of that so went into the telecommunications business and sold data and internet services for AT&T for around 10 years, then I took early retirement and moved back to Brad Pitt country. In texas I was in a 12 year relationship and when I moved back to my home state I remained single for many many years. The last two years I have been involved in a relationship with a man 15 years my junior....and it has been an interesting experience to say the least. I don't think that this is going to last into my golden years, but then what do I know, I take life as it comes and I am grateful for every opportunity that life has brought me.

I am enjoying a lucrative career in sales, I live in a beautiful part of the country, I am in good health and appear physically much younger than my years. ....(I have those long life genes, both my grandmothers lived to be 100). I love animals and especially cats....I am owned by two lovely Russian Blues and one is in his last year of life. I fell in love with a male Shih-Tzu black in color with a white tux markings on his chest and four paws....he is a clown and has stolen his way into a household ruled by two cats!

I am an aunt to twins, boy and girl, a daughter, a best friend to a woman I have known since the age of 12, am loyal, honest. and forthright. I am prone to giving advice and correcting people in their judgement, I am known to cause people to feel transparent as if I can look right through them, it is hard to bullshit me and I am not afraid to look you in the eye and give my advice. I hope to help people think, as this is what the INTJ personality is best at...if at times I leave out the feeling part, it doesn't mean it is not there, just deeply hidden as it has little use in solving life's problems, but is consulted as the heart of the matter.....

A female reader, AskEve United Kingdom +, writes (10 November 2008):

AskEve agony auntThis is a great question, I've really enjoyed reading about the other aunts and uncles! I live in Bonny Scotland and have 2 sons 16 and 21. I'm a positive thinker and like to think it rubs off on everyone I come into contact with. I'm a Relationships Expert and Life Coach and have been for the past 20 years. Studying Psychology and Sociology (just waiting for results now - winks). I love Astrology and interpreting dreams, I'm very perceptive and very spiritual (not to be confused with religious!). In my spare time I write songs and play guitar (and sing too). Did I say spare time? lol I've been on this site for a few years now and enjoy helping out behind the scenes and answering questions. I love life and I'm never bored, there aren't enough hours in the day sometimes. "Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful."

Top marks to the question asker for this question! Keep the questions coming and we'll keep giving advice.

A female reader, vamp-gal United Kingdom +, writes (9 November 2008):

vamp-gal agony auntOkay, well, basically I am 15 years old and am currently attending secondary school in my last year (year 11) and am trying hard to get into college.

I am, hopefully, going to be taking in college Psychology, Sociology, Law and maybe History and Philosophy as well.

When I am older I want to become a counceller so I can help others.

I am single, have amazing family and friends, I am part Greek. I am a Christian, but also think that others have the right to their own opinions, if they don't believe in God, that's fine, I am not going to force them to, believing in God is something thats a part of me, it doesn't have to be for anyone else. This is my view, I know some others have different.

I believe you shouldn't change for anyone.

I hate it when people say stuff like 'emo' to others (my friends) they don't even know them!

I love reading, writing, and learning new things, the only thing I have against school is the hours of waking up and some of the people in it.

I believe that if you believe in something you shouldn't be afriad to show it.

I may be a bit young to give out advice as good as some others on here, but I will always try my best and give 100% when I'm answering.

Is this basically what you were looking for?

birdynumnums agony auntI am 53 and have been married 31 years this past Wednesday! Have a son who has finally been officially launched out in the world, 26, and a daughter, 23 next week, who is going to Grad School in London. Lost my Dad and my Brother both this past year, my brother just last month. They were both big in the film industry. I still have my Mom and Sister/Best Friend. We are living in Chicago, where my husband runs a food industry business for the Americas. I'm the only one in the family who does not speak multiple languages, and when I do, it is a mixture of English/Nederlands/Italian/French that is probably unintelligible to anyone else. Was a Graphic Designer, have also sold art corporately, but mostly describe myself as my Children's Mom, although I've done the corporate wife thing too. Have taken up sailing this year. Have lived in Canada, The US, The Netherlands, England and have made retirement plans, so I will soon be spending time in the Bahamas, where I have noticed a lot of other Canadian flags. I am thrilled to be living in the US, It's a great country and I am having a very good time with my wonderful mid-western neighbours. I would probably 'fess up to the fact that I can no longer "Mother" my kids, so I guess most of my purpose here trying to tell younger people on the site how to avoid some of the sex/relationship pitfalls that I have observed through all my years, and I'm a big safe sex advocate. I love the people on the site, and all the other Aunties and Uncles are a very warm, friendly bunch of nutters.

A female reader, Tremor Australia +, writes (1 October 2008):

Tremor agony auntMight as well join the fun.

I'm 18, and I'm a receptionist - which means I get to answer the phone and be nice to people who are rude to me. I'm doing a Cert II in Business, which means I get crappy trainee wages, and that is why I still live with my parents, heh.

I haven't had a particularly eventful upbringing. So far, my teenage years have been relatively drama-free, barring the usual crushes and spats and 'omg-i-hate-you-mum' moments. I'd say those 'i-hate-you-mum' moments are probably the reason I've come out relatively unscathed.

Not married yet, but I have a lad I've been hanging around the last two and a half years. We aren't sick of each other yet, so I guess we're doing something right.

Good question!

michelleAKAmandi agony auntWell...

I'm 40, going on 27. I refuse to grow up!! It fit well saying that for a long while because I was the HR Manager of 2 of the Toys R Us stores.

Graduated with a CNA/Computer Network Administration degree and planned on putting it to use with a full time job/career, however; it's turned out that I use my knowledge to repair, build and anything else that comes along with computers for friends, friends of friends and my family of course. Kind of crazy that my PC's and Laptop are last in line...lol

I have 3 wonderful children, 2 girls ages 14 and 16 and a boy this is 10. I home school all three due to such bad schools/politics/danger and then some.

I'm married for a second time! Have a wonderful husband (if he stays on his medication, Blood pressure medicine, nothing like prozac LOL),

I have many pets, too many probably

5 Birds - Congo African Grey Parrot, Blue Crown Conure, Moluccan Cockatoo and 2 budgies

6 Dogs - 3 Inside pets 3 outside (Lab, Pekingese, 2 Chihuahua's and 2 Beagles

2 Tanks of fish, many different kinds

Sooooo... in other words, I'm a VERY VERY busy woman that needs my "ME" time a couple of times a week.

Love this question as I was curious about these things as well.

Sorry so long winded... that's me!!

A male reader, Danielepew Mexico +, writes (29 September 2008):

Danielepew agony auntWe're talking about translation, and about taking mutual advantage of globalization.

You're in the US, which means your rate per word is higher than mine. That means you can send a job to me, I can do it into Spanish, and then send it back to you. You collect the money, pay my fee, and you keep the rest. Because of the differences in fee, you will make money out of waiting for me to finish the job, and I will be charging the same fee I would charge here. The difference is, I will have more work to do.

Everyone benefits. And the beauty of the arrangement is that it doesn't work on the assumption that we're honest, but on the assumption that we're both greedy. If we're both greedy, we'll see to it working. If we're both honest, well, all the better.

We would need to fine tune many small details that seem to be unimportant but could become big problems. Such as file format, for example.

You can send me a private message if you're interested.

Take care!

A reader, anonymous, writes (25 September 2008):

My incomplete life story is in my profile - don't forget to click on my link at the bottom and feel free to leave any comments. Rude ones will be deleted though!

I haven't worked since 1991 due to a devastating life-changing accident involving Newton's Law of Gravity and a 25-foot ladder.

When I came out of the Navy in 1985 I worked 6 years as a CNC woodworking machine programmer/operator, (computerised drilling machine basically) and if you've ever wondered who it was that put the holes and grooves in your flat-pack furniture - well, that was me!

In my spare time I'm a volunteer Welfare Caseworker for SSAFA and The Royal British Legion and I get to meet some very interesting people through this work, particularly WWII veterans and particularly ex prisoners of war. I guess I'm a bit of a specialist in disability issues, having 'been through the mill' myself. I love it when I point people in the right direction when applying for state disability benefits when they didn't even know they existed.

I'm a 'doggy person'. My partner and I have a Cocker Spaniel called Scamp who is a real character. I tolerate other peoples' cats, but would never have one myself. I detest dog owners that pick up after their dog and then sling the bag of crap over the nearest hedge. Gives the rest of us a bad name.

Having been shunted up the arse a few times in lesser vehicles, I invested in a Land Rover Discovery which I've now had for 7 years, and feel quite safe in heavy traffic. It's a bit heavy on the ole motion lotion though!

Anything else you want to know, just ask!

I do home schooling, have been since grade 5 got pulled out because of bullying, but it suits me just fine. At school I was always told I was stupid by the teachers and the students but as I found out when I was 14 that I had the I.Q of some one with their masters degree. When I'm older I hope to live out my dream that was also my fathers dream and become a physicist.

I'm working as a street cleaner for the B.I.A (don't ask me what it means because I have no idea...real good eh? lol) I'm going to be 17 in January. I just recently lost my father about two monthes ago due to not being able to get a liver transplant. I live with my mother and my sister and my 2 dogs and 3 cats. I'm not religious either because I think everyone has their own set of morals they have achieved through society that they should live by and it's their upbringing by their parents or primary carers that determines how those morals turn out.

Apart from that I'm very open minded and that's why I like this site as you can see what happenes between closed doors instead of living in a fantasy world!

Mid 50's, been unemployed for over 5 years. Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering. For over 20 years I tried to get into electronics, especially as a circuit designer. Counting all the really short-term and part-time attempts I had 10 different jobs, failed at all of them and got fired from most. I occasionally get small project work from a couple of places.

TasteofIndia agony auntHi!

I'm 22 and I go to school (theater major... useless, yes) and then I work at Victoria's Secret and Under U 4 Men (a men's underwear store). So I'm pretty much the authority on undergarments!! Lol.

A great question, I can't wait to check back up on it and read other replies!!
