A female United States age 51-59, anonymous writes:

Hi ! I just had a business lunch with a male colleague. During the entire time, he kept taking his wedding band on and off and twisting it too. It was not very subtle and a little distracting. What does this mean?

Honeypie agony auntBad habit. Some crack their knuckles a lot, some toy with their hair. We all have annoying little habits that we aren't even aware that we are doing. His, I would guess is playing with his wedding ring.

I would just one day ask him straight up if he isn't worried he might lose the ring.

OP here. I am not looking for a particular answer. I am happily married and I knew he was married too. But, it was just so distracting--couldn't help but notice. Yes, probably a combo of too much caffiene and he not used to wearing a band due to his profession. Strange, people should really videotape themselves when they are talking! thought the ring was going to fly across the room at any minute!,

I have a male colleague who does the same. Every so often the wedding ring falls to the floor with a lovely, musical tinkle!

What you need to keep focussed on is that he is married. I think you are looking for some other meaning here because you are interested in him. Leave him alone - he belongs to someone else.

It could be a new ring or maybe it doesnt fit right. Maybe hes just bored and fidgety. Im engaged and i do the same thing but it doesnt mean anything. Certainly not interested in anyone else if ur thinking hes interested in you. If he was he wouldnt have worn his ring.

It doesnt mean anything. And alot of guys do that because it is uncomfortable. I know my dad doesnt wear his because it hurts his finger and it swells.

Lucky786 agony auntIt was either too uncomfortable for the situation he was in(i.e. he wishes he wasn't married at that time) or he just likes to mess around with it. In isolation the single act of taking it off really doesn't "mean" much.

AuntyEm agony auntI agree, it means nothing...he's probably just a fidget.

He wouldn't wear a ring if he intended to cheat.

A male reader, doublejack United States +, writes (29 March 2012):

My dad is very fidgety and he's taking his wedding ring off all the time. He also frequently spins it, like a top.

I think you're trying to read too much into this. It is most likely nothing.

A female reader, kirra07 Canada +, writes (29 March 2012):

I know some people that are fidgety and will do that to keep their hands busy, often without even realizing it. Especially if it's loose, my husband will fiddle with it, maybe partly as reassurance that it's still there. I don't think it means much at all. If you're wondering if he was hinting that he is not in a happy marriage, I don't think that's it. If he were looking to look outside of his marriage, he would simply have not worn his ring.
