A female Australia age 26-29, *nonymous1996 writes:

I currently have my first and seconds (lobe piercings), and my helix done (upper ear cartilage piercing)

and in my left ear first piercing (lobe), i have a 3mm fleshy (stretcher)

And i want:

-My thirds

-My tongue

-My nose

-My belly

-Maybe nipple (ring)

but most of those when I am 16 or older..

What is your opinion on having this many piercings..?

I'm not one of those kids with crazy colored died hair, and like 'scene' hair cuts, im not gothic or anything, im actually like one of those smart kids - i just dont really look like it, i just look average.

i just really like piercings

So what does having these piercings make you think of someone?

Like what is your opinion of people with quite a few piercings...?

moon river agony auntNipple piercings are hot, so are the others you've sugested. With all due respect to many of the agony aunts there is a generation gap on this site that might make the audience your asking a little inappropriate.

But go for it!!!! It's not like a tattoo you can just take it out

I think ear piercings besides spacers are fine and nose rings are ok but I think that Tongue piercings make people look and sound retarded. Nipple is kinda weird but I know people with them and belly gets infected very easily I know as both my sisters have one.

Xx-Scorpio-xX agony auntI don't think that there's anything wrong with getting a lot of piercings. I personally have 12 (mainly ones on my ears) and a tattoo and i get quite a lot of compliments about them~ and i still want more of them! :) For work or school you can always wear clear plastic retainers which can help to hide them. There are a few piercings though I'm just like, "why would anyone get them done" for example genitals. ouchie!!! :P As a previous poster wrote, you may change your mind about them wen you're older which i agree with. At your age i wanted my tongue done and lip desperately but now I've kind of changed my mind about them both. But if you like them then go for it! :)

I do not like facial piercings but then I'm an old lady.

I also dont like it and I think it is a form of mutilation of the body and it makes the female look loose, if you know what I mean. but that is my personal openion and I might be wrong b/c I am too old and old fashioned.

A female reader, lacrymosa_652 United Kingdom +, writes (15 April 2011):

lacrymosa_652 agony auntI have nothing against having a lot of piercings, I quite like piercings myself. I have three in each earlobe, and used to have two in my upper left ear as well, but then they closed up. I'm considering getting my tongue and navel done as well.

What you've described doesn't seem overly excessive, to me. It sounds like more than it will look, I think. If you want it then you should go for it. Some people will find it cool, others might find certain piercings trashy, some people may label you or judge you (and there are some stupid labels, a girl I used to know was deemed a slut because she had a tongue and labret piercing), others will be totally indifferent. You can't please everyone, so if you think it looks good and you like it, get them done.

Also, keep in mind what chigirl said about not being able to work in some places with certain piercings, because that's definitely something to think about. But piercings aren't for life, you can take them once they've healed.

A female reader, chigirl Norway +, writes (15 April 2011):

chigirl agony auntIf it is a young person with piercings, like a teenager, I would think they are desperate to fit into some crowd and look cool, and I would think they are insecure. No offense, just what I'd initially think. If they are older, say 20-35 I would think that's just their life style, and it's cool to do your own thing. If they are 40+ with all those piercings I'd think of them as old hippies or people who act young when they aren't, and people who should keep up to date. It's hard to find work if your face is full of piercings. One thing is the way you look that could scare people off, another is the hygiene issue. You wouldn't be allowed to work in areas where hygiene is of importance, such as in hospitals, kitchens etc. Neither would you be allowed to work as a representative for a business, or any type of job where you would have to interact with customers. So I would think, as a teenager who doesn't quite know yet what they want to do in life, you are limiting yourself with getting all these piercings, unless you can take them all out and still look normal. But with stretchers, you wont look too good if you take them out... So I advice you to not stretch it too far unless you know 100% what type of work you will have in the future.

I think they're cool except upper lip and tongue. Honestly lip is disgusting it looks like a piece of metal dirt on their face and it makes them look trashy. Honestly it's the type of girls that also have tramp stamps get their lips pierced here in Ireland. The same kind that shave their eyebrows off completely so they can draw it on with eye liner instead and make duck faces in every photo, you know the type.

It all depend on your style OP and lifestyle OP. If wearing tracksuits, huge hoop earrings and too much foundation is your thing then it's not going to work out well. Piercings work well on someone who embraces the alternate lifestyle somewhat. You see you won't be treated as "average" with that many piercings by a lot of people as I'm sure you're no doubt aware it works best when you're lifestyle and overall image is that way too, people seem to be more comfortable with that.

The most important thing though OP is not to care what we or anyone else thinks. You do what makes you happy, do what you want because it's your body. Piercings can be taken out if you don't like them so that's that problem sorted and if this is something you like and will feel proud to have then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks because some will like them and some won't.

A female reader, k_c100 United Kingdom +, writes (15 April 2011):

k_c100 agony auntI dont really have much of an opinion on it really - I think with tattoos and piercings, well if that is how that person wants to express themselves then fair enough. I'm in no position to judge!

I do often think that if a person has LOTS of piercings then they are trying a bit too hard to be 'alternative' - kind of a way of saying "Look at me, I am different, I dont follow the masses".

If you are talking about whether boys will still find you attractive with lots of piercings - well you will be limiting the number of guys that would go for you. It is an aquired taste really, I would say the majority of guys would be put off by the piercings. It would only really be other people with piercings or tatoos that would find you attractive.

But if you like them and that is what you want to do then why not! At least with piercings you can always take them out and they will heal over if you change your mind, tattoos on the other hand are far worse!

I hope this helps and good luck!

My GF has 11 and usually I have a strong stereotype against women with piercings however she has changed my perception. Partly because she has a background of a different culture than what I was raised with and also just the fact its her way of saying she likes to have her own unique look, which I admire with a respectful tone. I agree with gaby on this and wait til youre 18, just so you can verify that youre sure you want these things done. Being young and curious is okay however make sure this is what you wish to do and giving a little more time to think could be beneficial for you :)

A female reader, Battista United Kingdom +, writes (15 April 2011):

If you like piercings then that is your choice and people shouldn't judge you by the fact that you have them. As you say, you are a smart kid.

The fact is though, people probably will judge you. The thing about all these piercings is that they can be very public. If you have a nipple ring that only you can see, then fine, but when they are clear for people to see then people will form an opinion.

As far as my opinion goes, I am not massively keen on a lot of jewellery. A lot of piercings mean a lot of jewellery, and it's just not a look I like. I feel it looks messy if there is too much going on. It's distracting.

I also think that having a lot of piercings/jewellery may be off-putting to employers if you want a job where you have to face the public. They don't really look smart, and I could foresee that being a problem.

My final thing would be to say that, even if the piercings heal over in time, you will probably have a permanent mark or scar with some of them. As you are only 13-15 I would think seriously about getting all that many done because as you get older you may well change your mind about how you feel about these things, especially the fleshy. Who knows what you will want to do in the future? The reality is, certain professions require certain levels of personal appearance, and you should be careful of potentially jeopardising anything at this early stage.

Do what you want to do. But don't ask me for a job, because I wouldn't hire anyone who mutilated themself like that.

I went into a fast food place one day and was so grossed out by the piercings on people there that I lost my appetite. I just walked out.

You can present yourself to the world as you wish. But you don't have the right to expect everyone to accept it, let alone applaud it. Pierceings present you in a certain way, and that's going to appeal to a segment of the population. Fair enough. But don't feel discriminated against if you freak everyone else out.

A male reader, serenity80 United Kingdom +, writes (15 April 2011):

Personally I don't like them, I don't think they are attractive. I think one or two in each ear is fine, but that's about it. I guess I tend to think "natural beauty" is attractive and you don't need to pierce/tattoo or put loads of makeup all over your body to make it look good.
