A female United Kingdom age 30-35, *ma FreAk! writes:

Hiyaaaaa,

Well this isn't really a problem more off a personal opinion and preference!

I don't do art as a subject anymore but I recently bumped into my art teacher and saw him with a beard!!!!!

So guys why would you guys grow a beard or you know the facial hair especially those that do designs on their beard like the line on the side?

How do guys feel with a beard? It is like some rite of passage or something, feeling more manly??

And ladies!!!!!!! Do you like your boyfriend or husband to have a beard of any form of facial hair?

Love to know all the opinions!! :D

TasteofIndia agony auntMy fella joined the military and it has been two years since I saw that goatee on him. I never knew how much I would miss it... forever more I will never take it for granted. I loved that goatee. And I want it back, bad. Two years left until we reunite...

A male reader, Odds United States +, writes (8 July 2011):

Odds agony auntI love having my beard. Keeping it neatly trimmed is about as much effort as staying clean-shaven, but well worth it. It just feels nice, and it makes me stand out. It feels manly to have.

Now, most girls I know don't like beards at first. But every girl I've dated eventually grew to love it - two, in fact, got very upset when I shaved it for a job interview without telling them. Chicks learn to prefer it. I'd recommend any girl try out kissing a guy with a beard a few times.

A male reader, Fatherly Advice United States + , writes (8 July 2011):

Fatherly Advice agony auntI was quite surprised at the results of a similar poll among married women. Many found the beard manly and attractive. But, you didn't ask me how women feel about beards. You asked the men how it feels to wear a beard.

I could say that there is a great feeling of freedom in not having to shave 3 times a week (and I'm lucky to have a slow growing beard), but the truth is a nice beard takes some combing and trimming about as often. I like to look in the mirror and see the beard or mustache. If I didn't like that I couldn't wear one. The third week is the worst. It starts to itch. That lasts a week or two. after that you just get used to it and it's no problem.

I'm in a playful mood today, so without suggesting an inappropriate action between student and teacher I want to say:

Ladies, you haven't kissed a man until you have kissed one with a filter.

A reader, anonymous, writes (8 July 2011):

My boyfriend has permanent stubble on his face because he thinks a clean shave makes him look too young. Personally I wish he'd have a clean shave more often because when he kisses me he leaves me with a very sore chin the next day!

In some cultures facial hair on a man is a sign of masculinity. In Islam it is desirable for men who have been on the pilgrimage to Mecca to keep a trimmed beard.

A female reader, mystiquek United States + , writes (8 July 2011):

mystiquek agony auntOn some men, a neatly trimmed beard can be VERY sexy. On others, it just looks strange. It really does depend on the man's face. Some men can carry the look off, and some men can't. Same as women..some women can wear extremely short hair and still look very feminine, others just look ridiculous. My guy is Asian and can really rock a beard. I find it extremely sexy on him, and am always disappointed when he shaves it off and I anxiously await for him to grow it back. He is meticulous and it just really works for him.

Nope, I can't stand facial hair at all. I always think people with beards are hiding from something. But only my opinion!

A female reader, RedAthena United States +, writes (8 July 2011):

RedAthena agony auntFacial hair is as personal as how you style your hair on TOP of your head.

My personal preference is to keep it as neat and groomed as possible. Anything shaggy is a turn off and reminds me of my Dad:)

I prefer NO facial hair at all, but some men do not feel manly without it or simply HATE shaving.
