A female reader, anonymous, writes (15 November 2012):

I was 21 and in college and I had too much too drink from partying at a bar and I let an unsavory guy with a sordid past take my viginity. I regret it deeply to this day what I did.

A male reader, daletom United States +, writes (15 November 2012):

My wife and I were both 23 when we exchanged virginity (I gave her mine, and she offered hers) on our wedding night. We are still married (to each other!) over 38 years later.

Physiologically the first time was rather lousy sex. It was very intense, I climaxed in about 30 seconds, and to this day I am ashamed about the pain I caused my virgin wife.

It was also incredibly significant, and fulfilling, to both of us - and an overall awesome experience.

About two hours later our second time was physiologically MUCH better (we put her on top), but nowhere close to the emotional intensity.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (15 November 2012):

16, it was very painfull. There was nothing there to enjoy, of course no orgasm, next day it felt like there is a stick between my legs.

And a guy was a jerk. I broke up with him shortly, as he always wanted sex without doing anything to please me. He was 5 years older. Then I met him 2 years later, when I was already dating my future husband and couldn't understand how could I loose my virginity to him.

But my virginity at the same time didn't mean much to me, tell you the truth. I was glad this process was over, and since then sex is my favorite thing to do, and my husband is really good at it:).

xAx agony auntI was 16 when I lost my virginity with my boyfriend. we did it outside in a forest, with a blanket surrounded by candles and a bonfire. it was romantic but the sex was nothing special. even though I was totally in love with him, I wish I waited and kept my innocence because I value that a lot. I also didn't realise how long the rest of one's life is at 16! there's absolutey no need in rushing when you can choose to have as perfect as it can get first time.

I was 18, and had just married my first husband. It was a rather unpleasant experience, and it didn't get any better as time went on.

Staceily agony aunt18 with long time boyfriend who was also a virgin. Wasn't good, I cried, it hurt and wasn't pleasant or romantic at all. I felt I had lost my innocence. It was nothing like I expected from what I saw in movies. But I am glad we were both virgins and that I was serious, in love and comfortable with him. I don't regret it or think back on it badly.

A reader, anonymous, writes (14 November 2012):

20. Drunken one night stand on my birthday. I hadn't a clue what I was doing, was blind drunk, so it was awkward and crappy.

Fun memory though, one of many drunken one night stands.

Virginity never meant anything to me though my first time giving a girl a proper orgasm was my real first and that happened a long time before that. Spent my teens perfecting that art so no one was ever bothered when I started having intercourse regularly and was crappy and inexperienced.

A female reader, chigirl Norway +, writes (14 November 2012):

chigirl agony auntI had just turned 17. Age of consent in Norway is 16, so perfectly legal.

How was it? It sucked. It was okay, I guess, from what I knew at the time. Later I discovered what sex really should be like, and it was a whole lot different from my first few times. My first time(s) I didn't know I had to be wet, for example. I didn't understand that it actually IS important to be sexually attracted to the person you're having sex with, I didn't think it mattered who you did it with. Later I understand that this is the clue, if you are not attracted to the person you are having sex with then the sex will never be good. Some people you have the right chemistry with, others you don't.

And, I didn't know it would make a difference if I was in love or not. Which I later also came to discover makes a HUGE difference. It makes all the difference, to be precise. I wasn't in love with the boy I lost my virginity to, I wasn't even sexually attracted to him. The sex was not horrible, I didn't bleed, I wasn't in pain, and he was a gentleman and went slow. However... it wasn't anything special either, it was about as interesting as watching grass grow, to be honest. No passion, no fireworks, no nothing. Just plain boring. But at the time I didn't know, at the time I thought this is what it's supposed to be like. I didn't know better until 2 years later, when I first had sex with a man I was in love with. But even so, I didn't truly know what great sex was until another 2-3 years. My second boyfriend was amazing in bed, and that's when I finally understood what it meant to "make love" to someone, and not just have sex.

shrodingerscat agony auntI was 16 and it was horrible. It was extremely painful, the guy had no idea what he was doing and was incredibly selfish and rough. Very traumatic. It took me years to learn how to appreciate intercourse after that.

A female reader, OscarsMummyReturns United Kingdom +, writes (14 November 2012):

I was 17 and did it because i wanted to find out what it was like, and i remember thinking 'is this what all the fuss is about'

It wasn't with anyone special, he was one of those guys who used to say 'if you were my girlfriend you'd have sex with me' a total player but i saw right through him and i used him to be honest just to find out what this whole 'sex' thing was

It doesnt concern me now but if i am honest i wish i'd have waited until i met the right person, waited for a longterm boyfriend

It was uncomfortable and really dull infact - shoudlve waited for the right person !
