My boyfriend goes out without me, why does it upset me so much?

A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I'm 18 and my boyfriend is 19. I am at university 30 miles away from him.

I don't know why, but I really don't like when my boyfriend goes out. I don't like it when I've been at work and when I get in, he texts me saying he is out with his friends, not only because his friends only want to spend time with him when they want to go out and get drunk, but because he doesn't speak to me a lot, it just seems like because he's busy he doesn't care.

I'd say I'm quite insecure, but his best friend tried it on with me a few years back when we were having a break, whenever my boyfriend tells me he's with him, it makes me so mad! Partly because I told him, and he's still friends with him! I hate that they don't appreciate him.

The thing is, I just get so upset when he doesn't text me or talk to me. I hate when he does things and I get stuck in. Yet whenever I go out, it's alright for him to be off with me.

I've recently just been really upset because it's a Saturday night, he has work on a Saturday and whenever I visit him he's always too tired to see me, yet when his friends ask to see him, he'll go out!

I just get so upset. I just need advice, maybe I need to let go.

A female reader, src. United Kingdom +, writes (14 March 2010):

src. agony auntTalk to him about this and tell him how you feel, you will be building up your trust here with him aswell. You probably dont like him going out because you are stuck in and you just want to be with him instead of his mates, this is normal because you just miss him. When you talk to him and he carrys on doing things you dont like then think wether you should still be with him or not if hes upsetting you everyday.
