Mistreated sexually in a shop! What should I have done?

I went to a shop the other week somewhere in Northwest England (not saying where), was looking at buying some new electronics for my husband, and asked a saleswoman for advice. She then asked me to come over to her desk, to discuss it, which I did, and then performed a lap-dance by my side, before stripping to her lingerie.

I was sickened and disgusted and it left me feeling upset about the way I was treated. I told my husband and now he wants us to boycott the shop.

I didn't tell anyone else about it worrying about their reaction, not even the store.

I can't go into one without those memories coming back.

I know some of you will think "This can't be real", but it is, and I wonder how they'll deal with it.

What should I do/have done?

duce00 agony auntI am sorry but I was somewhat amused and titillated by the visual on this one until I thought of it in terms of a guy doing this with me. Ughhh like Jack Black doing a strip tease...funny, but...ewwwwwww!

You can report it but honestly I think the time to do that was right then and there while she was prancing around in her garters. You could get even and see if she will do it again and video it. Post it on youtube and you sure would get the shop's attention!

Starlights agony auntHi,

If you felt disgusted by what happened you need to complain.

This type of behavior is not acceptable and it could happen to another poor customer.

Here are the details of who you need to contact and make a complaint to:

[Moderator note: details of shop name removed as this is most likely a spoof question.]

Goodluck!

Poor woman, she must really need the attention! But its not exactly good customer care is it. Maybe you should phone up the manager and complain. Although the manager might like it! Sorry to laugh.

God, I actaully worked for [name removed] once, so I know how shoddy their customer service is. You could try the store manager, but they wouldn't really do anything, so you'd be better telling head office, or even contacting Trading Standards and telling them instead. Sorry that happened to you.

MissKin agony auntI agree. I actually think you should contact the police. And have them contact the store for you. Have the date, rough time, and description/name of the employee who did this. you don't want this to happen to anybody else.

HonningKanin agony auntAfter getting over the shock of her stirpping down to her undergarments I would have rated her out of a 10 point system and put a fiver in her bra.

Joking aside this seems rather odd for a sales person to do. I can only imagine it could have been for a show like "Trigger Happy TV." However I think I just would have laughed. I really don't know what I would have done after that. I think it would have been up to what else followed, like if I was touched or if she finished and put her clothes back on. If she started to make sexual advances on me I think my first reaction would be to tell her "thanks but no thanks. Can I see the manager please."

If this is really something that bothered you that much I would talk to the manager of the store you were at and point out the salesperson who did it. Also I would point out if something is not done you will report the event to the papers. That usually gets something done. Likewise you could always report them to the police for lewd behaviour.

witch-fire agony auntTell the store manager. This sales colleague should not have done this! You wont be the only person she has done this to. If it turns out she is a manager, contact head office. The number may be on the website if not i will try and get it for you.
