Hey, so I'm wondering what most girls think of tattoos.

I've already got one, a cross on my right bicep and I've never heard any complaints about it.

But this Christmas I'm looking at getting a koi fish done on my forearm (half sleeve), and eventually I plan on getting both my arms sleeved.

So I was wondering if this will have an effect on me getting a date, I don't want girls to get the impression I'm some guy who digs looking like he's fresh out of prison.

Any input is appreciated, thanks a bunch.

-Joe.

Mushgirl agony auntTattoos can look super-hot... I've never met a girl my age who doesn't think so. I think a lot of girls in our generation find them attractive, so long as you don't overdo it. But I'm sure some girls would find it a turn-off... it's the same with a lot of things, though. I have dreadlocks and I've found that even though a few guys find them positively unnattractive, a lot love 'em, so I say go with what you like, and the right kinda girl'll fall for ya.

you shouldnt get tattoos if you worry about what people think.

I have tattoo's i have piercings and if a guy doesnt like them then he wont like me. im individual. so what.

If you want to express yourself go for it.

Personally i find tattoo's and piercings on guys the biggest turn on EVER.

Im not a strange random thing sat in the corner of a pub either. i have a normal job and a normal life haha.

My boyfriend is a tattooist and has both arms covered, both legs and piercings everywhere. and i LOVE it, i think its soo sexy.

go for it. express yourself. but dont have a tattoo to impress anyone else. you'll regret it. trust.

xx

The way I look at it is this. If she doesn't like you because of your tattoos than she wasn't worth knowing in the first place. You can't live life trying to be what you think others want you to be. You should be you. Tattoos or not you are who you are, and eventually you may find that someone looking for an outward appearance instead of the whole package is not what you want. I am who I am and I celebrate it everyday!! My man loves me for who I am, I'm covered in ink and he isn't!! Thats not why he fell in love with me.

sexi agony auntHi

I think that tatoos are very sexy BUT I dont think i would like my guy to be over tatooed. I think the cross and probably the koi fish would be ok but getting both arms sleeved?!? I dont think so. I dont find a guy with loads of tatoos appealing (expecially if they are big)I guess it depends, diiferent strokes for differnt blokes, lol!

calamitysil agony auntProblem with tattoos, is that once you've got one you're stuck with it, for life! Unless you end up having it removed through surgery, which is major as you end up having to have a skin graft. You need to remember that what is fashionable now may not be so when you're a lot older. I can't think of anything worse than a man or woman over 50 covered in tattoos, and I'm 39.Personally it would turn me right off, wether young or old.But others find them a turn on, so there you go! You could always opt for non permanent tattoos?

angelblueeyes agony auntHi,

I really like tattoo's my husband had 2 when i met him and he has got a few more since, i dont believe that you will hate it in yrs to come unless you have something completly ridiculas you just have to remember its there for life.

I had my first tattoo at 17 a red rose and my husbands name when i was 20 i'm now 29 and id never go back and not have them!

Obviously this is your choice and only you can answer but seriously if someone does not like you because you have a tattoo then i say they are not really worth the effort!!

Good luck

Being a model I know personally I would never get a tattoo or date a guy who has a tattoo. It is like wearing bumper sticker and I won't be seen in a car or with a man sporting a bumper sticker no matter how clever it is.

A male reader, Richard_EMids United Kingdom +, writes (22 November 2007):

Richard_EMids agony auntHey Joe. I'll give you another perpective. When I was 17 I bought this shirt in London. Expensive but cool, really cool. It made me feel good when I wore it. I got a really hot girlfriend about 2 weeks after buying this shirt!!! I wore it all the time, for about 4 months. Sometimes with a different coloured T shirt underneath. The following year I wore it quite a lot - but over the next few years then times started to change. I changed. Women changed.

It was a great shirt. But I became a different type of person. The shirt didn't really suit me (Yes I'd still kept it).

The point I'm making is - what you like at one age isn't the same as what you like when you're 24 or 30. Or 44. Can you imagine yourself aged 44?

I'm 52 now - and dating again. I am so glad I don't have to wear that shirt. I wouldn't get any women! (they would probably think I was a pimp).

(I only actually threw that shirt out about 3 yrs ago).

It depends on the girl. Some like it and some don't. Watch out for how they look at you and react. Personally, it's not really my thing.

TomWilkinson agony auntI've been getting more since getting a tat, so for me it has made a positive difference, but Mistify is spot on, it just depends on if the girl likes tats or not!

A female reader, anonymous, writes (22 November 2007):

I personally like tattoos,a guy with tattoos is definitely sexy in my eyes!!

It's gives off a mean and rough look about a man, which is what most ladies i know prefer.

If you want tattoos, you go for it hun, a girl should like you for who you are it shouldn't make a diffrence.

Hope this helps x

Mistify agony auntHey Joe...

Yes and no. The thing to remember here, is that it is DIFFERENT strokes for different folks. Some ladies might absolutely LOVE all the tatts, whilst some ladies might absolutely HATE them. For me - tattoos has never been a problem on a guy, but i've never wanted one. I'm not the person to stereotype people, but you will definitely attract more of a certain type of girl. The thing i always think about, is HOW it will look when you're 60 years old.

How will people in general LOOK at you in love, business and social life? It really doesn't matter what they think - as long as you are happy with the way you look, but we do live in a VERY judgmental and competitive society.

Why not just get the KOI first, and then see if, and how life changes for you. I don't think it will have MUCH of an impact on your life - so - go for it.

Good luck...

Most girls thing guys having tattoos ar manly and if a guy has some it means they can take pain, it helps girls see what type of guy it is.

Although having loads will put some girls off you as it is too overwhelming.

Don't go mad Because once you've had it done its there to stay, so my advice is get a few if desired and don't risk over doing it and maybe ruining it.

simple yet sexy!

Hi Joe, personally i dont like tatoos and it would turn me off. But it really depends on the person, you are still very young so be careful what you choose and if you believe its something that you can live with for the rest of your life and happy to do so, well go ahead. I know tattoos can be removed, but i have heard its quite painful. Good luck to you
