hi this is Nelly again. I did have a lot of stress this year but i've been quite relaxed for the last couple months so i don't see why my period won't come now.my stepdad has insurance but i'm not an american citizen yet(i can live here because i have a student visa, so i'm not illegal, don't worry)and my mom is not here. i'm skinny, but trust me, that's in the family, i eat everything and anything all day long. and i walk and ride my bike a lot, does that count? anyway, thanks for all your help.

xoxo, Nelly

hey i live in canada which has free health care. the first time i got my period i was 15 and long overdue it was regular or semi regular anyways until i was 17 at which point it just stopped. i waited about 3 months before i took a pregnancy test which was positive i had 7 positives in total but everytime i went to the doctor no baby. so i went through a series of blood tests, examinations, urine tests and bla bla bla because they thought i had a thyroid problem but of course everything was negative. the doctors said it was a chemical inbalance in my hormones persribed me pills and said it would straighten itself out. so i waited and waited and eventually gave up then one day just 2 months shy of being 2 years poof super mega it was horrible and uncontrollable. then of course it stopped again after several months and its now been 9 months. my point is that not everyones body does the same thing some people are just different thats the way nature is theres probably nothing wrong with you and you will get your period in time but you should get checked out just to be safe.

fishdish agony auntsometimes it takes a little bit of time in the beginning before your hormones work themselves out. there are such things as free clinics and planned parenthood that'll really reduce your costs-my state has a planned parenthood program where every visit is free if you apply to the program and jump through the hoops. tell your mom and you two will figure something out that'll work for you.

Is it at all possible that you could have broken your hymenn and you thought you got your period? Or did you have regular periods before then? It's definitely not normal to not have your period for almost a year.

Like other posters have said, if you don't have enough body fat, you'll stop menstrating. A free place to get checked out is planned parenthood. All they ask for at the end of your visit is a donation. Otherwise there are also clinics who won't charge you an arm and a leg. I think it's pretty important to get something like this checked out.

tennisstar88 agony auntGood point Plexi, if you are underweight, borderline anorexia then yes you're period will disappear so to speak and it won't come back until you gain some weight!

Plexi agony auntNelly, how were your periods before Nov'09? Were you regular up until then? What happened around that time in your life? Have you experienced any stress more then usual ? Stress can often cause periods to be absent. This is how the human body is made..........the brain senses that you are under stress so does not tell your ovaries to release an egg( ovulation does not occur) because a stressed woman is not fit to carry a child...........if no egg is released then no period happens either because our period is our body getting rid of the unfertilized egg. If you can't afford to go see a doctor right now, how about going to a free clinic or talking to your school nurse? Also look at reducing the amount of stress in your life and ensure you eat well as this can also be part of the problem( if your body fat% is too low you will not ovulate.........same reason as above)

Don't worry hun, it will come back, just relax:)

tennisstar88 agony auntAre you not on your parents's insurance? I think you need to check into that, if you are then tell your mom of the issue and she'll take you to the gyno she frequents. However, if you're parents don't have health insurance, your mother can take you to a women's health clinic where you can get seen by a gyno and tell them of your feminine issues. They will either offer discounted services of free depending upon your parents's household income. Tell your mom!

LLindy87 agony auntNelly, periods can be irregular when you're first getting them, especially for the first few years. Are you active? Because the more you're active the less you have your period, so if you're in a lot of sports this could be the reason. However, its completely normal to have irregular periods at first.
