A reader, anonymous, writes (12 July 2009):

Your very young. I suggest you hold out as long as you can. You will be glad you did later in life. You can have a lot of fun without actually having intercourse. The truth is: No guy respects a slut....even though all guys are sluts. I know it isn't fair, but life is life. Good luck girl in anything you decide.

A female reader, Tisha-1 United States +, writes (9 July 2009):

Tisha-1 agony auntI think that teenagers' bodies are often well-developed and that the physical development gets out ahead of their emotional development.

Sex is an amazing part of human relationships and can be truly special as well as physically pleasurable--it bonds couples together and contributes to their sense of well-being.

In some people, it's almost just like exercise, something to do with your body and it doesn't involve the mind or heart at all.

Girls tend to put a lot of emotional weight on sex and this might not be the case with the guys she meets. So there's the potential for being hurt here. (This of course is a sweeping generalization and there are always exceptions to these!)

Sex also exposes you to potential infections and possible pregnancy; these can have a huge impact on your future and should not be so lightly dismissed.

Generally, I think that it's pretty common that teens are having sex. I also think that in many, if not most, cases, they will regret it later on. Read some of the really sad posts from the girls who are terrified they are pregnant or have an STI. The consequences of the sex is a couple of weeks of sheer panic. That doesn't seem worth it to me and points out that these girls (and boys, let's not forget them) weren't truly prepared. They might have thought they were, but when the period is late, or there are some funny new lumps that weren't there before, they aren't so ready or able to cope.

One of our aunts wrote a very good article, which I'm enclosing the link to: http://www.dearcupid.org/question/thinking-about-losing-your-virginity.html

Read that through and let us know what YOU think about this topic!

Good luck!

Like the below poster said. Wait and be sure it is the right guy. If not you will sleep with another guy and then another,,,and pretty soon you will have the reputation of a common slut. No girl wants that reputation!

bobbles32 agony auntSorry, Just thought you were an ignorant 15 year old with no concern for grammar. But I still think you should atleast wait until you're 16, so it can be legal.

A reader, anonymous, writes (7 July 2009):

no age is too young provided you feel ready and use the appropriate protection.

many adults on here make up stuff to discourage teens from enjoying sex by saying stuff like no method of contraception is 100%.

while this is true it is all over 95% to over 99% effective so you would have to be incredibly unlucky to get pregnant etc unless you use a faulty condom.

A reader, anonymous, writes (7 July 2009):

That's a good question. If you ask any adult, they will say yes that is too young. But ask the same adult how old they were when they started having sex and they will say 14 or 15 years old when the hormones kicked in. I am an adult so i will say yes it is too young, but then again i don't have your hormones working against my better judgement. Do what you think is right for you, but by no means believe too many adults that said they waited much past your age to have sex for the first time.

babymama99 agony auntYes, 15 is too young.

if you have to sneak around behind your parents backs to do it. yes

If you don't have a place of your own, where you can spend the night with your partner. yes

no type of contraception is 100%, so if you can't afford to raise a child. yes

A female reader, Katy. United Kingdom +, writes (6 July 2009):

Katy. agony auntI don't think many aunts would agree, but i personally think it's okay,

i never used to, i was completley against it as i have alot of morals, but untill i found myself in a relationship it was hard to stick to it when it was something I wanted to do,

I'm fifteen and I lost my virginity at fourteen, and i deffinetley think this is far too young thinking back, i mean tbh, 16 isn't that great nevermind that, but i'm still with my boyfriend now after over a year and a half.

I think it depends on the situation and who it is, I don't regret doing it one single bit, it was amazing and all i could ask for, i wish i had of been a little older, so if it's for the right reasons, with the right person and not just to get it out of the way or to fit in, i think there are exeptions,

I don't think the majority are ready at 15, but it's what feels right for you, not what age you are.

A reader, anonymous, writes (6 July 2009):

first off i am sure you know, at 15 it is actually illegal to have sex! for many reasons.

i personally thing yes its a little to young because ou body is still developing and even if u think your really mature, sex is a HUGE decision and there are so many things that come along wiith it. i would wait!

darkledemon agony aunttbh i always thought girls who had sex this age were not sensible but then i have been with my boyfriend 7 months and recently started having sex im on the pill and he used a condom. aslong as people are sensible, are not pressured, and truely love the person they are having intercourse with i think its okay really.

:) many people may disagree but im open to other views :)
