hi, i need to get a back brace for my scoliosis and i've been told by many others that when they take a mould of your back to make the brace, they will ask you to take your clothes off and only stand their in only your underwear and nothing else.

people say getting a doctor the same gender as you will help, but i don't like showing my whole body to someone and just thinking of it makes me unconfortable.

has anyone had to go through this with personal experiance, is it really that bad or am i overreacting? im really insecure about my body too.

person12345 agony auntI have never had scoliosis, but I did have to have a pelvic exam at around your age and I was SO scared about how I looked, but it really was nothing! They are professionals AND you are very young, there is nothing sexual to it at all. Everyone feels like this before their first naked exam, but once it's over you will see it's really not bad at all.

It's not going to be like TV either where some extremely attractive high school cheerleader type is going the exam. It's not going to be a young catty judgmental high school type.

Try to relax, it will be over before you know it, totally painless and you will feel great when you're done. Just try to remind yourself how relieved you will feel leaving the office.

So_Very_Confused agony auntOh Franny you are so struggling with this scoliosis thing aren't you...

I have adult onset scoliosis but I knew a girl when she was about your age who wore a brace for scoliosis and she did just fine.

It's better to fix it now honey...

You will probably have to take your shirt off... and your pants too.. and that's ok

doctors and techs are professional and are not seeing you as a body... it becomes very impersonal to them and they see you as "the mold I have to make at 12:30" or whatever.

they will not judge you or laugh at you or make fun of you.

and btw being insecure about your body at your age is normal for girls without scoliosis.

Warm-Inspire agony auntHi Franny,

I haven't had a personal experience with scoliosis but i know going to the Doctors and having to get parts of your body out you may not be comfortable with can be daunting.

But you don't need to worry about it, Doctors aren't there to judge your body, and they've seen it all before sweetheart, they don't take any notice.

My own Doctor clarified it for me when i had to have a breast examination, and was abit anxious about it. I requested a same gender doctor and she reassured me i had nothing she hadn't seen 1000 times before.

You have nothing to worry about :)
