Grrrrrr not a relationship question, but i wonder if anyone can help.

I punched someone in self defence about 5 or 6 weeks ago. Wish i hadn't now because its done me no good!Woke the next day with a painful wrist. Thought its probably a sprain so ignored it. Carried on as normal, thinking it will get better. I iron everyday, and drive, and carry heavy shopping, so it doesn't get a rest.

The last 5 days its turned into agony. My whole lower arm aches now, and it was a bit swollen the other day. Im now typing left handed with the arm in a sling. I'm driving one handed, and ironing left handed, it takes ages.

Rang nhs direct, they said i need to go to a and e. Was no help at all really bless her. I guess they cant be with that sort of thing. I tried going to minor injuries this morning, car park was full because its Royal Ascot day opposite it, so i came home. Anyone know what i could have done damage wise, or could do to make it better?

Uncle Sneaker agony auntOh hum.

Good luck.

I'm sure it will be all right... and I don't want to panic you when it's probably completely unnecessary... BUT watch out for inflammation, bruising spreading, pains in other parts of your hand/arm, numb fingers etc etc. If it's a straight sprain or a cracked bone then yes, you're right. If it's one of the smaller bones that's broken or out of place, then you could be in for a lot more problems either really soon or much later.

You really should have gone to the doctor to get an expert opinion - that's why doctors usually refer you to have an x-ray with a suspected break - just in case there's something more complicated there that they can't see or feel, or if there's a risk of it all starting to mend but internally in the wrong position.

Good luck.

(It's still not too late to go see your doctor)

hlskitten agony auntI bottled it and went to the chemist and paid a tenner and bought a wrist splint. To be honest, its been great. Its taken the pain away. Keeps the wrist in the right place. So even if it was fractured, thats all they would of done anyway. Apparently they dont cast them these days. I shall leave the splint on a good month, then see how it feels.

Uncle Sneaker agony auntGo to your GP first. The A&E will probably turn you away if the injury didn't happen in the last 24 hours unless it's life-threatening - that's what they do here, I know from experience! The GP should refer you to the hospital by a telephone call for an immediate x-ray and then you'll still have to go to A&E or the minor injuries unit who would have turned you away in the first place.

Oblivia agony auntI also guess it might be broken, or gotten a damaged ligament. Especially since it rather gets worse over the days than better. Until you get to a doctor's office, you could wrap an elastic bandage around, not too tight, but enough to keep the swollenness down.

Go check it! If it's broken you don't want it to heal itself in a maybe bad way, and if it is "only" the ligament, you will also be helped to reduce future problems from self-healing.

Take care of yourself!! :)

BigSis agony auntHiya Kitten,

May I just inform you that we have 54 bones in our hands, you could possibly have fractured one or more of them.

You must half of packed a punch there, Missy. I wouldn't want to bump into you in a dark alley. Lol, just kiddin' hon.

I suggest you do what Eyes has suggested, got to A & E and get it X-rayed, the longer you leave it ~ the worse it'll get.

Get yourself a nice 4" thick book and take yourself to hospital, and hopefully by the time you get to the final chapter they will have called you in. Hee hee

: )

I can't believe you haven't already gone after 5 days. You bad.

Best of luck, and do let us know what they said.
