In general, the person on top gets the easiest orgasm. Humans, unlike animals, have a preference for making love face-to-face but also enjoy other positions. Pregnancy is supposedly more likely when the girl's hips are elevated. If the girl's legs are pulled back against her chest, either missionary or sitting on the guy's lap, he can go very deep inside her. In the middle of the night when you're only half awake, spoons is a wonderfully intimate position to have mild orgasms then drift back to sleep still coupled. X- and T-positions are nice for having conversation during extended lovemaking.
I think most couples have a preferred list of several different positions depending on their moods and circumstances. Often they use a sequence of positions. When my wife & I make love at night we usually start with her on top (inverted missionary) then shift to spoons. If it's in the morning we go from her on top to missionary. Unless I've been especially satisfying at giving her cunnilingus, when we might use only the doggy or missionary positions.
