A male United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

hi, so basicly ther is this girl i find realy attractive who i have met once through a lass i know, basicly, what can i say to her over facebook to start a conversation? possibly get her number? that kind of thing.

She is younger than me by couple of years, so that right ther fills me with confidence because im not out of her league :) wer as if i tried pulling a 24 year old i wouldnt feal as confident cos she would be out of my laugue (its just how i think to feal confident)errr... but yeah its not i struggle to talk to girls, its just i have tried with her before n she always put dead end conversation killers like 'haha' crap like that, she didnt show any interest so i just left it as i am not a pest!

But recent information from chatting up her best mate ;P has told me when she first met me i was 'bang tidy' and 'well fit' ! so i liked a couple of her facebook status over a few months, wich were them like for a rate , and like for a sentence, i liked the rate and got a "9.9!!" /10 (notice she put the explemation marks... am i reading to far into it?) but i didnt get the 10 cos she had a boy friend at the time ... and the sentence i got , realy funny, lovely and good looking with a winky face and a love heart at the end.... how do i read that? is she now showing interest or am i just reading to much into it when infact i should just take it as a compliment and go on my merry way??

i cant explain my way of thinking but with me been older by 2 years if anyones is out of anyones league i am out of her league, i have a good job, i work out, stay healthy and have a good laugh in life, so surly she should be flatterd im showing interest? as obviously if a fit 24 year old girl started chatting me up id be flatterd to F***!!!!!!

A male reader, Odds United States +, writes (7 May 2012):

Odds agony auntBest bet is to clear your mind of all previous interaction and start fresh. Facebook is so vague - there is no qualitative difference between an acquaintance casually Liking an occasional status and a desperate secret admirer carefully rationing his enthusiastic Likes over a period of months, as far as the receiver is concerned. Spending time reading meaning into that will only ruin your clarity of mind.

So, start fresh. Send her a message. Something like, "Hey, it's been way too long since we spoke. Let me know when you get a little free time, we can hang out." It's that easy; either she'll say yes or she'll say no.

Take my word for it on this: *what* you say to a girl has almost zero effect on whether a girl will go out with you or not. This is part of the reason chicks go out with jerks - instead of worrying about what to say, they go out and just say the first nonsense that pops into their heads. So while decent guys are still trying to figure out the right words, the other guys already won with the quick words.

In short: whether she'll say yes or no is already determined. All that's left is for you to get the answer. Best of luck.
