writes:Birth Control...I'm a virgin, have no desire to get BF yet and I am happy to finish living my childhood for the time being as I know when it's gone I'll miss just been young.But i see alot Qs about BC (birth control) and I'm just curious really as to what people generally go with.My mum used to be on the pill, but that messed with her hormones or something like that and made her put on lots of wieght (we are talking years and years ago so probably different pills now lol) so i was just wondering what you guys use (reply anonymously if you want to but please reply :)) and what made you decide that method? thanks in advance :)

 I used to be on The Pill as well as NuvaRing once, but they really messed with my hormones. They made me incredibly depressed and I felt nauseous all the time. They also destroyed my sex drive and I lost my ability to orgasm. However, most of my friends who were on the pill liked it and reacted well. I'm just sensitive to hormones. I know a lot of people with IUDs and they all love them. Not to disagree with the below poster too much since implants work well for some, but IUDs are actually safer than the implant in terms of pregnancy rates.
Currently I use condoms and have Plan B available for the occasional slip. If you intend to just use condoms, you should to be willing to take plan B (contrary to popular belief, if you're against abortion plan B is not an abortion pill, it's basically an extremely high dosage birth control pill to prevent the egg from attaching) or you're just asking for trouble. It's also important to follow instructions. Meaning "pinch an inch" at the top, stop having sex after he ejaculates, hold the base of the condom firmly before pulling out, and check the condom for leaks.
There is no right or wrong birth control, it just depends on what works well for you.

 I use the Paragard copper IUD. It can stay in for 12 years and has no hormones or side-effects.
I used to use the pill (Yaz) but found that it gave me headaches and destroyed my sex drive; I was also worried about messing with my hormones like that. It was also sometimes difficult to remember to take the pill at the same time every day, and if you're off even by a few hours the MANUFACTURER'S instructions warn you to use a backup method for the next 7 days because you might have ovulated in that time. Also, if you use certain medications like antibiotics it can make the pill ineffective.
Which is better? I say with 100% confidence, the IUD, for the following reasons:
1. With health insurance it cost me $180 to get the IUD and have it inserted by a doctor, and this will last me 12 years. When I was on the pill it was $25 a month with health insurance so that would be $25*12 months*15 years = $4500 on birth control.
2. If I want to have the IUD removed to get pregnant, I can get pregnant right away. If you go off the pill, it often takes months or years before you can conceive again, especially if you are in your late 20s or early 30s.
3. I don't have to remember to take anything with the IUD. On the pill, I was constantly worried that I didn't take it on time.
4. The IUD is more effective against pregnancy than the pill.
5. No headaches or synthetic hormones.
The only reason not to get the IUD would be if you usually have very heavy periods. The IUD can make your menstrual flow even heavier. This has not been a problem for me because I've always had very light periods.

Im getting the implant, its the safest form of birth control ! Its a small tube they put in your arm and you can either have a really good reaction to it and your periods stop or it can have a bad effect and you can bleed all the time in that case they can easily take it out ! it lasts for three years so can be replaced every three years , it can be taken out when ever you like so if you want a child within the three years you can.

I use the pill, specifically the combined pill Microgynon 30, and we also use condoms. I've never had any problems with this method. :)

 I use condoms, but most women I've dated have used the pill. A couple used the shot, one loved it, the other hated it. I have a friend using the Nuvo ring and she really likes it.

My girlfriend is on the pill, and we use condoms too. That's the best protection short of not having sex, so that's why we use them.
