 Males rely on their primary senses more than females during sexual activity. This the main reason why men seem to like pornography more than women. Women are generally use their heads more.
This is just a generalisation however, back to your question. Yes I would think it is encouraging to know that he is making you happy and satisfying you. From my own personal experience the more vocal the person who I am with is, the more I enjoy the experience as I feel like I am doing a good job so to speak.
So in short, the more noise the better aslong as you mean it and you are not putting it on.

 Guys actually like to know that they are doing things right. It is gratifying knowing that they make you feel good.
A man is completely self concious during and after any sexual activity. A small misunderstanding can hurt there ego so much they can't preform.
