Question - (5 April 2009) 4 Answers - (Newest, 5 April 2009)
A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I have recently been doing a health promotion campaign on body image, which focuses on anorexia, bulimia and obesity. I have mainly focused on bulimia and have researched a lot about it.

I have been on a diet since the end of xmas and have lost 2 stone so far.

From doing work on bulimia I came across the idea of throwing up which I do now whenever I feel that I have eaten too much, for example after a big meal. I don't do it very often but I have had about 2 binges, which I know is bad and is why I don't do it often. I can still eat something unhealthy without feeling the need to throw it up but I will do it if I don't lose much weight in like a month or something. Like last week me and my dad ate a big unhealthy meal as a treat that make me so full I felt like I was going to burst and felt sick, so I did.

My body consciousness has got a bit worse since I broke up with my boyfriend because he cheated on me. I don't think this has made the throwing up worse but has made me want to lose weight to make myself more attractive (as if I go by the bmi scale I am overweight).

I want to know, will this get worse if I let it carry on and develop completely to bulimia, should I just let myself eat healthier with nothing unhealthy so not to tempt it.

Please help, I know it's bad for me if I do it too often cause I've read so much on it.

wonderingcat agony auntFirst of all, what "body image" campaign are you working on? The problem with "image" is that it is a label that are given by others, as opposed to an inner happiness about your own body.

Secondly, in addition to your own research, you should also consult with a medical nutritionist in your area, for the best well balanced diet plan that is specifically tailored for you or your age group. A good nutritionist/dietitian is always happy to provide consultations to health conscious clients/patients.

Thirdly, check out your BMI and BMR on your age group. Your metabolism rate and hormonal level is not the same as other age groups (adults and smaller children are different)

These links may give you a head start before your visit to the nutritionist:

Dieting is easy if you are health conscious instead of image conscious. Good healthy diet and proportional exercise will make you glow inside and out ... and people will notice how attractive you have become!

Stay healthy!

Really, I've been reading a lot on setting fire to things and fund how INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS IT IS, so I decided to take it up.

Are you actually serious that your campaign on how bad eating disorders are inspired you to start throwing up? If so then you need a new hobby as you are CRAP at promotions.

YES you should stop. Did you not get past any of the bits of reading to get to the bits about male nurses holding you down and having tubes forced down your throat? Or the rotten teeth, terrible skin, and hair falling out? Or the pressures on your heart that can KILL YOU?

Go back and rethink your promotion and your life.

Good Luck!! xx
