A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Alright I guess this question is more for girls that have been pregnant or maybe people that know about pregnancies.. ok, about five nights ago my guy friend and I had a good bit to drink and needless to say things led into the bedroom.. Well I was with a guy before that couldn't really keep "it" up or finish when drunk, so I thought maybe it was that way with any other guy maybe.. We had intercourse for what seemed to be a very long time and then just stopped, I thought maybe he just gave up because I didn't think he came (because some guys, I've noticed, make it kind of obvious when they finish with like a noise or sudden jerk of the body or just something, but no not this guy so I didn't know he finished) well we didn't use protection either.. Well on top of all this, that day ended up being the last day of my period and I remember in high school health class learning how a woman is fertile for 14 days after her period.. So obviously its too late for plan b since its been 5 days, but no worries I don't believe in abortion either.. I was just wondering what the chances are that I'll get pregnant, how long does it take an egg and sperm to join, and also if there are any signs I could be looking for this early because I'm so scared and just wanna find out as soon as possible.. Thanks everyone!

Since it was the LAST day of you period there is a chance you could get pregnant. If you have a shortish cycle, you will ovulate about a week after your period finishes and sperm can life for quite a few days after ejaculation. It's not a dead cert but could well happen

Take a pregnancy test as soon as your next period is late. Take another one 3 days later if it still hasn't arrived. Go for a blood test if you're more than 2 weeks late.

Get some contraception sorted out. Always carry condoms with you.

wait a few weeks and then get tested. this would confirm if you are or not.

Rather than analyse what is possible and what is not, I think your best bet is to visit your doctor because otherwise you will be torturing yourself wondering.

LazyGuy agony auntI think you need to ask your money back from your biology teacher.

Odd that you are more an expert on guys reproductive behavior then your own.

Fertile is the period an egg is ready to be fertilized. The 14 day period adds the days sperm can survive inside. So you can have sex before the egg has descended, sperm hangs around and voila, pregnant from sex before you were fertile.

That is why there really is no such thing as safe days. The period is far to long and it requires a lot more discipline then the average girl got to refuse sex (or use a condom) on unsafe days. As you should know.

The pill, they invented it for a reason.

Your chances are 50/50. Either you are or you aren't. Wonder if this scared you enough to be safe in the future. Think the chances of that are roughly zero. Right?

It usually takes between 5-10 hours for sperm to travel to where the ovum are released and they live for a couple days. You're timing is not great. Another week or so and you can use a pregnency test. I give it less than a 1 in 4 chance that you are pregnent but it depends on your regularity and unique bodily conditions.

On a side note: as a guy, I usually can have multiple orgasims in a sex session and I try to ensure my gf does too. I never really noticed a big effect from being drunk besides having less control over my release and being more likly to release inside my partner. Drinking and having sex with multiple partners is not a great idea especially if you are not also taking responsibility for the birth control and reducing the risk of you getting a STD.

Good luck. I won't tell you not to have sex and I hope this works out for you but please either limit your number of partners or get tested regularly.
