I really want to take a few drags and see what it's like, but one of my friends is TOO overly protective and will tell my guidance teacher! Also, do boys think it's cool if their girl smokes? What do I do for both situations help please!

no, smart boys don't like girls who smoke.. it'll make your breath stink, your hair stink, your clothes stink, your hands stink, your skin look like pale/grey crap, your eyes look less sparkly, your teeth yellow, and its a waste of money AND if it turns into a long habit you will also have cancer, heart disease, vascular disease and enphysema (where you have to be permanently hooked up to an oxygen bottle to breathe) to look forward to.
it is highly addictive, cigarettes are designed to be so, did you know that they even contain sugar (to help keep you addicted!)so do not start because you will find it hard/impossible to stop. that's aside from the mixture of FOUR THOUSAND nasty chemicals, many of which are known carcinogens (cancer causing)
any boy who finds smoking an attractive quality in girl is silly and not really worth knowing

 I have never smoked in my life and am proud to have never tried it. Don't give into the peer pressure! how can guys find girls smoke attractive? they smell or smoke, have a horrible cough, bad teeth, bad breath....eerrrr! guys will be more attracted to a strong willed individual who does not follow the crowd. its a bad habit to start, every single person i know who is a smoker wishes they never started, so take the advice, don't start!

 I started smoking when I was 13 because all my friends were doing it and I thought I'd look pretty grown up. I'm nearly 26 now and wish to god I'd never started. Believe me, you won't stop at one drag! Listen to your friend and stay away from the ciggarettes. Oh and no, I've never met a single guy who finds it attractive.

 Smoking is very unattractive. It's a pretty disgusting habit, in my opinion. Boys like girls that don't do stupid things just to fit in or look cool. Have a mind of your own.

Don't smoke . As a male I find that seeing a woman smoke is the bigggggessstt turn off ever, even if your drop dead gorgeous and I see a cig between their finger I find them no longer attractive. Makes your teeth yellow ( know one likes that) and makes your mouth smeelll soooo horendous who would want to kiss that. That's just my point of view. Ohh and is it cool? Lololol no smoking doesn't make you cool especialy when your 14? You'll look like a clown.

reader, anonymous, writes (31 January 2011): please do not try it at all!, even if its just a few drags, thats how i started and ive been smoking for 2 half years now, and it all started over 2 drags, i got addicted to the nicotine right there, its not cool to smoke, and if i could stop then i would, its a drug that your getting addicted to and it causes so many health problems, and it definately is not cool at all, ive liked boys before and they wouldnt get with me unless i quit smoking and i just couldnt do it, so seriously i strongly advise you do not start, cause you get people saying its dirty, they'll say to you yor not hard and cool because you smoke yuno, so dont break into peer pressure, be yourself, dont follow what everyone else is doing, and you'll come out of it alot healthier too!:)

 It is NOT a good idea to smoke at ANY age. Nor is it attractive. Especially if you're a teen. No, guys don't think it's attractive when girls smoke. I have plenty of guys who would vouch for this. Some guys will even refuse to date a girl if she ever has or does smoke. Not to mention, your lungs will thank you for it later in life. Please don't do it. Let your friends do what they do and you live your own life. You're too young to worry about health issues anyway.

They think smokers are easy. As in, "wow, she'll put a cigarette in her mouth. I bet she'll put anything in there."

I've never known a guy to like them more because they smoked but I do know plenty of guys who find it a huge turn off and would never date a smoker. I assume you already know all the cancer risks and stuff from smoking but I'll just say this - one of my friends who smokes is 25 and has recently had a miraculous recovery from throat cancer caused by smoking for 10 years. Now she's back doing it again cos it's just so addictive. And if that doesn't put you off (it is kinda rare after all) another of my smoking friends is 29, has been smoking since she was your age and she looks at least 40 and has a horrible sounding cough and scratchy deep voice. She's tried so many times to quit but just can't do it. I know smoking has a cool rebellious thing in high school, but it stops being cool as soon as you're out of there. It's also pretty disgusting until you get used to it/addicted. So if you're really curious and really want to try it, please limit yourself to those few puffs you mentioned. But watch it, it doesn't take long to get addicted and trying something to be cool really isn't a reason to affect your life forever.

reader, anonymous, writes (31 January 2011): Do not smoke. You're only 14. I've had plenty of friends who have smoked throughout my life, and I only have tried 1...when I was 18. My friends have been good to me in keeping me from smoking. My friends who smoked have always kept me from doing it. It's good that you have a friend like the one who is trying to keep you from it. If you end up addicted, there are so many bad things that can happen. And even though you already know about the risk of cancer if you keep smoking, think about your looks too! It causes premature wrinkles, thinning lips, dulling of the hair, etc. Not pretty! Even if you only smoke socially, it'll still affect you. Please keep your future in mind. In the end, most guys prefer a woman that doesn't smoke...mature ones.
