Let me fill you in even older guys are like that at times but are better at controlling it.When you are younger you get more erections than you can count.I don't remember being able to count the number of erections i used to have in a day.It's really normal though you shouldn't be always looking down there to see if he's trousers are bulging there.

 Yes its possible, at that age their hormones are racing around everywhere. I recall being that age and things like that happening to me, whether it have been looking at girls that i like, or the womans underwear section in the freemans catalogue, what a joy it was to be that age!!!!.
As he matures these feelings will subside and erections will be less frequent.

reader, anonymous, writes (16 December 2007): Of COURSE he's gonna get an erection looking at you. He's a guy, yeah? Guys get erections. A lot. Probably a lot more frequently than you'd imagine, especially at that adolescent age. He probably thinks about sex once or twice every conversation you have with him. It's not because he's a pervert; it's just that his body is being flooded with all kinds of new hormones, and "nature" is telling him to procreate.
By the way, this does NOT mean now is a good time to have sex!
Sometimes he will get erections and he won't even have to think about sex! Like if he's riding in a car on a bumpy road. Or when he wakes up in the morning. Or maybe just randomly in math class. It happens...

At that age you can get an erection over anything remotly related to girls, or even just randomly.
Hugs are one of those things that help the process, but anything can help it.

reader, anonymous, writes (16 December 2007): A boy of that age, with his hormones just starting to course through his body, will get an erection at just about anything whether it's page 3 of The Sun or just someone or something he's thinking of connected with the female form.
A hug will probably speed up the process and it's natural, but he'll grow out of it in a few years' time once he's started to shave.
