Is it normal for a girl to want to have sex on her period?

A male Australia age 41-50, *oshB667 writes:

I have been with my partner for 3 years, we are happy and enjoy a fulfilling sex life. She loves having (unprotected) sex on her period and in fact we have done so regularly almost every month since we started going out. In fact this is when she is at her horniest and 'begs' for sex, being a guy I found it hard to not indulge.

At first I was a little shocked at the idea, and was initially also shocked at the mess it makes (I was not used to seeing my member covered in blood) but have since got used it and I have grown to enjoy it. She even loves having me go down on her during her 'time of the month' which admittedly took me a bit longer to come to terms with but I have also come to enjoy indulging her even though it would put most guys/girls off. Having done it with her for so long now it is just normal for us.

All of my previous gf's had never let me go near them while menstruating - Are we unusual as a couple for this practice or is this more common than one would think ?

Nime agony auntNope. My boyfriend and I have sex, both intercourse and oral, on my period as well. We are both most aroused during this time and my boyfriend loves it even more than I do. There are many health benefits as well, including shorter and painless periods (due to uterine contractions and prostaglandins in the semen) and it's even thought to offer some protection against reproductive cancers.

To reduce the mess, have your girlfriend take a hot 15 minute bath beforehand.

Thanks for the replies

Person12345, thanks for the reply, that would explain her behavior, it is indeed great sex as she has told me I am her best. After 3 years I think any STDs would have arisen by now (I did get herpes from her but I dont count that as serious, and as we are in a serious relationship which will likely last I dont really care what she give me, she is my life partner).

Lindy, it makes feel good to think that my gf is so comfortable with me that she shares such intimate times with me, she has told me I am her best :P I will consider myself a lucky man.

Yes, for some reason being on my period does make me want to have sex. Always wondered why. Don't know. Just know that it is true.

A female reader, person12345 United States +, writes (9 October 2010):

person12345 agony auntMany women feel horniest on their period. There are many bonuses, including the fact that she will always be slightly aroused due to increased bloodflow, plus the fact that the blood can act as a lubricant, makes period sex a great thing. Be careful though, STDs are more easily transmittable, due to the increase in blood. Also, remember that being on her period does not make pregnancy impossible. It's less likely, but not even close to impossible.

LLindy87 agony auntshe's just more kinkier then your past girlfriends. I like sex on my period because its more sensative down there...but I HAVE to be really comfortable with the guy in order to do that
