A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Hi,im in college and even though i go to a school of 14,000 people, I have never been so lonely in my life. I dont have any close friends here, just acquaintances and the people who I live with dont have anything in common with me and think i am a slut, which i am not! I lost my virginity to a guy who only used me for sex and i cant even look at another guy because im so in love with him, as much as i dont want to be. The only thing I have going for me is my studies. I try really hard and study a lot and my grades are slowly going up.

I dont mean to sound so sorry for myself but I have absolutely no one to talk to. The world seems like such a lonely place to me right now and I get major depression. Please can anyone give me advice on how to deal?

college was a lonely place at first, but if you join some groups, teams, etc then you will meet people who have the same interests as you and will find some friends. also if you are not happy with your roomies then talk to the people in charge of the dorms/housing..you may beable to get moved into a place where u know some people. but don't worry about it, you will meet people and end up having a great time. as for the guy who used you..what an Ass! i've been there as well and all i could do was tell everyone he was crap in bed. it made me feel better and made him the talking point of every girl...in a bad way. lol. but have fun at college, it's good fun.

There will be millions of societies, clubs, groups and organisations at your college. Join some!

Be in a band, have a go on the student radio station, become a member of the climbing club, something new and exciting.

The only way you can meet new people and get to know them is if you talk to them. Take a risk and try it.

Try talking to your room mates too, I am sure they don't think you are a slut and will probably be supportive about you being used if you talk to them.

Good Luck!! xx

i think you should try to go out and meet new people. i know how you feel. im a very shy and quiet person and i only have aquaitances too. so i decided to make a change. i am more outgoing now and have started to meet new people. you just gotta put yourself out there and explore the world. happiness lies in your own hands.
