I'm a 21 year old female and have a crush on a 17 year old boy. He acts very mature for his age and he has made it quite clear that he wants to hook up with me. Is there a problem with going for him?

macboy agony auntMorally yes, but in reality no.

There is the double standard no-body cares about.

Though most guys don't care anyway.

I think the best way for you to be true to yourself, is to swap gender.

Would it be ok if he were 21 and you 17?

duce00 agony auntThe main problem will be buying him alcohol. Ohhhh your in Canada maybe its different there...

Ok I will be serious now...sorry!

So is he living with his parents? Thats an issue for sure. If hes on his own at 17 then he is definately mature for his age. I assume you are on your own or close to it. Hes pretty close to adulthood and its a little off but Id say its ok if you are both being mature about it. Society doesnt frown on younger men dating older women as much as it does the opposite. Its assumed that men are more predatory (and often this is true). If you were 17 and he was 21 Id probably be giving different advice. I guess that would seem like a double standard but its how I feel.

A female reader, penta United States +, writes (27 August 2007):

penta agony auntI don't think there's a problem as long as you're willing to take some ribbing from your friends, and back him up if that's the case. Once you're a little older the age difference will mean nothing. My husband is four years younger than I am. As Daniel said, though, you should make sure he's legal before you have sex. Otherwise, good luck.

Starsearcher agony auntI don't think there is something wrong, it is happening to me now, i thing being mature its not related with age but with situations you have been throw.

Take your chance i don't think you will loose anything, if you don't you'll never know.

Take care

Danielepew agony auntI can't tell you how much I'd love to be in that guy's situation. If you plan on having a little action with him, check if this is legal in Canada. Otherwise, have fun.
