 In this case you have to explain to him what's going on in your head about him and this situation, if he really loves you he'll understand. The movies situation he can't get mad because that was you're friend and that's what friends do whether they're boy/girl man/woman married/single....YOU'RE JUST FRIENDS WITH THE GUY!!!!!!!

 If i was you, i would just tell your boyfriend nicely and in private, that you think it is time to break up. I cant really tell you what to say to him unless i know the reason why you want to break up with him. But feel free to write back and tell me and i will help you with what to say and do.
If the reason is because you like this other guy, then simply tell him that you do not feel ready to be tied down as you are only young. Do not lie to him as he will be even more hurt if he finds out you are going on a date with another guy straight away after you have broken up.
He will probably be upset at firat as break-ups are hard for anyone, but be assured he will eventually move on. There is no easy way to break up with someone, as long as your honest and open it should hurt less for him.
