A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Goodmorning my fellow earlybirds : ).

My problem is related to finance and my relationship. I'm 18 and my bf is 21 and he makes like 3.5 times as much as i do. I work at starbucks and I've been working there for like 8 months now, and its my 1st job. Within my second month I was offered the position of supervisor by my then district manager but I turned it down because I felt it was too much stress and responsibility for not enough money. Well anyway, now they're cutting back our hours because of the recession even though I feel like they should be cutting the money from all that food they waste EVERYDAY instead.

I'm also losing my insurance because in order to keep your benefits you have to work @least 2o hours a week and because of the recession myself along with my other coworkers are lucky to even get 15. I'm fed up and I work really hard over there. The customers love me. I want to quit and get a real job where I can make more money. I can't even go to school next semester possibly because I can't afford it and that's killing me.. I refuse to take loans though. I know I'm only 18 but what kind of jobs can you guys recommend for me so I can make at least 300-400 a week versus my barely 150 a weeks now? Please help, I need the money for school and to help around my house, my mother is over worked and under paid! I would also like to pick up the bill when my bf and I go out without being afraid I'd get declined.

Thanks every1 for all your suggestions. My brother actually works for ups, he makes good money and has great benefits, I never thought about it but I should probably give it a try. My bf also works for fedex, he's a supervisor though, he's trying to get his license to become a driver, but with work and school, its impossible for him to finish his classes. But maybe one day I'll hint to him that I would need a recommondation letter or something so I could work @ another fedex.. Well time willl tell. Thanks once again every1 and HAPPY HOLIDAYS! : )

Danielepew agony auntI can't help you about what job to take. I don't know the American work market. I did notice you said you might not be going to college next year, and I happen to know about a book that might help you with that. Haven't really read it, but it might be useful:

How to earn a college degree without going to college:

deejuliet agony auntThis suggestion will not get you the money you are after but it may help. Try UPS. My ex husband went to work for UPS several years ago because he could work there part time (he had his own business to run during the day) at night. The have the 'twilight' shift of 6-10 pm and a night shift of 11-3am and a day shift as well, I think. That is only 20 hours a week and the pay is ok. He started out making only about $9 and hour but that is quickly increased. Now, after being there for 6 years he makes about $16 or $17 per hour. He was asked several times during his first year to become a supervisor which would have meant more money, but he declined. Now the great thing about this job is it gives you full medical benefits with NO employee contribution! You get 401K, retirement, 3 weeks paid vacation, etc. So the pay is not great, but the benefits are! And it gives you time to go to school or pick up a second job elsewhere or whatever.

Transcowboy agony auntHave you though about applying to some hospitals in your area. There are things you can do there that you do not need a degree. They have health benefits and also most hospitals will help you if you want to go back to school.
