How can I get the ball rolling between us? He's shy and we don't have much money, either!

A female United Kingdom age 36-40, *rAzY and CoNfUsEd writes:

hey sorry this is so long!

last month my friend told me he fancies me and i like him too. We text eachother everyday and see each other at work at a few days a week but because we are both shy, nothing is happening between us. Its so frustrating!!

I went on holiday last week but just before I went, I said to him "when i get back, do u fancy meeting up" and he said "yeh of course I want to" so it was agreed we would meet up. However, since ive come back from holiday, he hasnt mentioned anything about meeting up even though it was clear that we both knew i meant it as a date.

The main problem is is that he is very shy, like he said he has never asked a girl out in his life (even though he is 23) but he has had previous girlfriends so he somehow got with them. Also, he gets shy chatting about his feelings for me face to face which is why we stick to texting each other because we can both say how we feel without getting embarrassed.

I dont want to be the one to keep initiating things between us, I want us to get together as we both know we like each other but I dont know how to get things started?!

Also another problem is that we are both students at university and are extremely broke so neither of us can afford to do much and i think this may be another reason hes holding back from asking me out on a date.

has anyone got any suggestions on how i can get the ball rolling between us? Im scared he's going to loose interest if nothing happens soon

thanks

xxx

A female reader, chachacha United Kingdom +, writes (18 April 2007):

Say to him: "remember before I went on holiday, we said we'd meet up? do you still fancy the idea?"

When he nods or says yes, say something like: "well why don't we go for a walk in the park on Saturday lunchtime - I could bring a picnic" (that's cheap, easy, and very romantic!)

If you like him, ask him. Why should the men have to do the asking? - it's not the middle ages!

It works every time!

Hope this helps!x
