A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I'm sixteen years old and for the past six months been smoking cigarettes and weed regularly.I haven't been getting much exercise and have gained a lot of weight, lost motivation to finish getting my high school diploma and been depressed. I also think I have high blood pressure. Lately i've been feeling a tightness in my chest a little bit, and that's scaring me. I don't know how to get my life back on the right path. I could go on and on about how i've been mixed up in a bad relationship lately. But that would just take up time.I honestly don't know what to do and would just like someone's view on how to get motivated.

sincerely,~too old to ride a bike, not old enough to drive~

Dazzerg agony auntWell the other advice here is all good stuff but you really need to get to the bottom of what led to this downward spiral. Without anything else to go on here I would have to say it is most likely this relationship.

Obviously your experiences have sapped your sense of self-worth and left you in this position. Maybe you have unresolved feelings about what happened too and you need to get them out into open and not dismiss them like you seem too here. Good luck :)

Boonridge McPhalify agony auntweed is a thing that makes you less bored and content to do less than you should. Cigarettes on the other hand will sap you of your energy in a big way and lead to laziness.

anyone reading this who disagrees take a look at heavy smokers that you know-i bet they dont do much but smoke.

the combination of disrupted motivation and energy drained is going to wreck your school work. I have taken a LOT of drugs myself so i have first hand experience of my own problems and those of people around me i have seen.

you're depressed because you have the common sense and insight to see where all this leads and you dont want to take that route.

SO DONT!

love-him agony auntHEY!!

I too get the tightness in my chest, and the doctor told me it was just 'growing pains'. I am now overweight and that is a problem for me.. Driving would mean you more than likely put on weight! when you are at home maybe doing a few sit ups a day or jogging on the spot? as for the cigs, the easiest way to stop, is DONT buy them and the same for the weed!!

GOOD LUCK!! Feel free to mail me at any time x x

A female reader, gretchen Australia +, writes (28 February 2008):

gretchen agony auntThe first thing I would suggest is that you see a doctor. Get a full check up, get your blood tested (don't worry about the weed in your bloodstream, they're doctors so they can't call the cops, but they will still warn you about it) and write down a list of health questions for the doctor, make sure you tell him/her about your chest pain. Once the doctor has reccommended some things that you can do to feel better, the next step is to start exercise! Exercising brings it's own happiness, I'm not kidding, there is little need for medication to mask your depression when you are exercising at least every day for 30 minutes!

When you feel you are ready, I would strongly suggest that you try to get back your high school diploma. Here's a hint that got me through high school = do a little bit of reading or homework every day, make targets that you can achieve, and you'll be there in no time. I hope everything goes well for you because you're very brave to ask for help because it means you know you're going in the wrong direction, and the first step in the right direction. :)
