A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Well, I'm in my last year of school, with only this week left of school till my exams, and then I'll be off to college in September.

My boyfriend has been really depressed lately because we are in the same school and he's a year younger than me and soon I wont be seeing him as much. We've been together for a good year and it's been great but today we hit a wall and sparks have been flying.

It really gets me down when he goes off all silent and miserable and it really annoyies my best friend. So today, us three were walking home and he goes off in a right mood (which hasn't been the first time) and completely ignored me. So my friend said that she had enough and started shouting at him, then he started shouting at me and I stormed off really shocked coz he's not the sort of person to shout at anyone. We sorted it out and then he told me what was wrong. He said that it was because I was leaving school and going to college and that he is scared that I'll find someone else. I honestly can say from the heart and gaurantee that there will be no one who can treat me better than he can. I've told him this so many times but it hasn't seem to sink in.

So I'm at a dead end now. I don't know what to do because I can't stay in school forever and he's extremely paraniod. Any suggestions or comments will really help.

Thanks

xx

growing agony auntLife is not all that difficult as it seems sometimes.you said that he is extremely paranoid(i hope its not in real bcos that implies he is suffering from some mental disorder and needs urgent treatment,so avoid using such extreme terms out of your frustration).

Now situation demands you to shower all your love and time on your love.As you said you are left with last 1 week,so you must be having some imporatant tasks to accomplish but you should give fair share of your time to your boyfrd.bcos his reaction is quite normal.it happens as you two were together for 1 year and now suddenly you will be in distant relationship and his insecurity too is justified. You are the one who is going in some university.so it's easy for you to accept all this as you were prepared and you know that your life will be more fun or atleast you are expecting new things in your life .so here excitment is somehow neglecting the hidden sorrow of your boyfriend.i don't intend to raise finger on your love for him but i am just trying to bring a clear picture from all the angles,so you can decide good for you two.

so speak with him and make him understand how important is your higher education for your future and you are not leaving him,its just distance between your body but your heart will always be there for him and tell him that you will maintain contact on phones or internet.bring these things out so that he would know that you are just leaving school and not him.

just love him and give this last week as your sweet momento to him.

was this of any good?

keep smiling!!!

Hello,

This must be a difficult time for you. I've done my gcse's and a levels and I understand how stressful it all is. First of all I think that you should concentrate on revising for your exams and getting the best grades you can. It's understandable that your boyfriend will feel lost when you go to college because you see each other every day in school. He has to understand that you really want to go to college. Keep reassuring him that no-one will treat you as good as he does and that you love him. When you do go to college then involve him in what's going on, show him that you still want him in your life. If you set aside some time every week to see each other then there shouldn't be a problem. If your relationship is meantto be then you going to college shouldn't be a problem. Enjoy your time at college. Only one life you get so make the most of it. I'm going to uni in September and I can't wait.lol.

Good luck.xx.
