I'm 14 years old and 5ft 7, I've got striking eyes and cupids-bow(or whatever it's called) lips, i've got prominent cheek bones and know how to pose for photographs.

I'm often told I could be a model, but I've got a reasonably big nose, VERY VERY pale skin, big boobs, and larger butt and thighs.

I've not applied for any REAL modelling agencys (like high fashion) but the few advert ones that I've tried out I've got in, but never actually gone through with the contract.

Do you think I could be a model?

there are some pictures of me on my myspace

A reader, anonymous, writes (20 December 2006):

It sounds like you are so involved with your looks and at your age; it certainly falls under the "norm" of behavioural check points.

Often those who are obsessive with their looks develop an overly sensitive criticial eye of themselves and begin to say such offensive statements of themselves like how you supposedly believe you have a huge butt and boobs.

Weither you do this for attention or reassurance, I wouldn't let your looks become the only means you define your worth or value in today's world. The World has always been fickle and beautiful young women are a dime a dozen.

I have had three of my four sisters sought after for modelling and when asked to lose 10 lbs...they have said...screw you!

My one sister couldn't believe that 10 lbs was such a big deal and he said if she was going to do any more face shots and body shots...she could stand to lose 10 lbs. Keep in mind, she is very slender as it is and at a healthy body weight. She told him that she is very altheletic and her weight is more muscle and she is not going to sacrifice that.

He then told her she had a great body that women would die for but in the fashion world where you want the bucks...she needed to lose 10 lbs for runaway exposure. They told her if she could lose 10 pounds in three weeks; they would ship her off to Japan for some work.

She decided that he was mental and so was the fashion world.

Agreed that she didn't have a fuller bosom...you may just have to be happy with the face shots, or if you are more curvacious...then they do tend to you use those body types for alcohol, smoking type ads or even athletic ads.

I was approached to be a face and leg model. But I did not enjoy the atmosphere of the modelling world as I am very down to earth and a huge tomboy. I couldn't see myself being so high maintenance as what was the demand.

And at your age; 14...Sweetie don't be inviting strangers to oogle you and validate your exsistance on looks. It spells out danger. Where the heck are Mom and Dad?

A female reader, anonymous, writes (20 December 2006):

hello.i am well up in the fashion industry so i will put tour feelings aside and give you my honest opinion. Well, alot of designers do not like a big butt or thighs and really stray away from big boobs, on fashion tv recently Giorgio Armani stated that, you nose isn't that large at all, but at the same ti,me designers can be quite picky when it comes to the size of the nose, even giselle bundchen got alot of grief over that. Plus 5'8 is the minimum height for catwalks. Also it appears you do not have a long enough neck, which is a total must for high fashion modelling. So to be brutally honest i do not think high fashion would take you far, but maybe commercial??

A reader, anonymous, writes (10 December 2006):

You might be able to model for swimsuits and clothing that fit around that sort of body, but if you're talking about catwalk modelling in Europe, then I would have to say it's a long shot - not impossible, but difficult.

I have a friend who is 5-8, weighs at 115 pounds, is a 32c, long legs, feminine, but even though can do the walk, and has a face like an angel's with high cheek bones, straight long black hair, gorgeous eyes, perfect shape, she couldn't actually get into the high profile modelling. So she switched to Hong Kong fashion modelling instead. She's not a super model, but she's there somewhere.

Try doing commercials, ads for various companies, even a poster girl for a local business. Agencies can definitely help as well.

A male reader, anonymous, writes (9 December 2006):

What good qualities do you think are associated with being a model?

I dont think there are any. It is a very superficial lifestyle that promotes insecurity and values the trivial.

When it spits you out in 3, 5, 10 years you are like to have some money, have traveled a bit but seen only capitals and bars, have aquired a drug addiction, and eating disorder and little education.

stina agony auntHi Anon,

"Do you think I could be a model?" No, not if you never go through with contracts! Until you go through with one and/or go to an agency, then you'll never go anywhere. Next time you have a chance to model for something, go do it so you have some experience to build on.

Like the other aunts said, you should try to get a portfolio done, even if you haven't had any real modeling jobs. A good place to start would be a photo student at a nearby college, etc. They are learning top of the line techniques and will work for cheaper than someone who has their own studio, since chances are they will want to start building their photography portfolio, too. That way you're bound to have a bunch of really nice shots to start your portfolio.

Take care.

(PS - since your myspace is private, and you userpic is ultra edited - too much contrast, etc - I can't really tell what you look like. Maybe you'd want to change your userpic to one that hasn't been photoshopped so much so people can comment on here about it! :) )

David Lewis agony auntYes, I do think you have what it takes. I especially like your eyes. They are very distinctive.

I think you should get a portfolio done and become registered with an agency. You really just need to be wary as getting in to the 'wrong' side of modelling for a more attractive salary.

Apply to fashion catalogues, they should be able to advise you better and more specifically.

Best of luck

b3x agony auntThe thing I always find when I see any models, is they have something really distinct about them, I guess thats what modelling agencies look for, if anything you have the confidence and speak highly of yourself!

I guess you'll never know until you try, sit down with your mum and try and find agenices in your area so you can build up a profile of yourself.

Good luck though!
