SirenaBlusera agony auntThanks for sharing, though Troubled. These are pretty. Don't think I'll ever get a real tattoo, because I want to wait until I'm 100% sure that I want it.

Tattoos just aren't me, though. I think they do look sexy on guys! They're like glasses, I think they look amazing on others, but they just don't feel like "me."

If I ever DO get a tattoo, I want a Mexican flag, a Spanish flag, or an Andalusian stallion. I just got back from Spain, and the idea of a tattoo DID cross my mind.

I always did think that being a tattoo artist would be an exciting job. A friend asked me to design one for him to take to a place... I was flattered. :)

I was going to say, it cant be all that bad, look at all the people who have them...but then i realized that arguement doesnt wash....look at all the women who experience childbirth more than once and that hurts like nobodys business. so i guess it depends on how bad you want it in the end..lol...........mal

If you are afraid of getting one or not sure what you want then you could try the temporary ones sold here.

They have hundreds of designs and look very good. They last about 5 to 7 days before they start to flake. They last longer if you wipe the application area with alcohol first. My wife loves them because she can change between the various rose designs and place it where she wants to have it show or not depending on the clothes she is wearing and how much she wants it to be seen.

A female reader, SirenaBlusera Mexico +, writes (12 January 2010):

SirenaBlusera agony auntI think that a lot depends on the person. When I got my navel piercing, I barely felt a thing. That doesn't mean that it wouldn't be painful for someone else. I have a high tolerance for physical pain, however.

I don't have any tattoos, but I understand that they're quite painful. A lot depends on the person's sensitivity.

What is a greater concern than the pain, would be your health. Your first priority should be to choose a clean, safe place to get your tattoo or piercing. Here are some really good articles (SoYouWanna.com is a great site):

dont get a tattoo if you have had alot of alcohol or painkillers within the last 24hours as they thin the blood so the tattoo will bleed more and take longer to heal

A female reader, Not My Name Australia +, writes (10 January 2010):

Not My Name agony auntIve known tattoo's to bring tears to the eyes of a grown man depending on where it is done. Bony area's tend to hurt more. My own tattoo is only about 4cm x 3cm and gotta say it was not very painful.

It felt to me more like something hot was being heavily draged across my skin. The only time is got a bit on the ouch side was if the tattoist did not lift the needle enough, but when ever that feeling seemed to kick in he would lift it within a couple of seconds so was not too bad at all. Overall, it only took 15 minutes for something that size.

Dont take asprin if using a pain killer, and don't drink any alcohol to dull the pain either, as both of these things will thin the blood a little and cause you to bleed more.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (10 January 2010):

it depends on where you have the piercings and tattoos and it also depends on you yourself. ive got a few tattoos and piercings and i personally found that in general, the piercings were more painful yet ive got friends who have piercings and tattoos in similar places and found the tattoos more painful.

the tattoo is like being constantly scratched with a tiny needle but after a while you dont really feel anything. i find the sound of the tattoo needle more offputting than the actually scratching itself. But what you can buy in a chemist is a numbing cream that is used for needle injections and if you put that on before u get the tattoo, it helps to numb the skin and reduces the pain

A reader, anonymous, writes (10 January 2010):

The pain of getting a tattoo has been described as a cat scratching a piece of sun burnt skin.

Then again it depends whereabouts you get it done, places such as wrists and ankles are likely to hurt.

The best things to do before getting a tattoo done is the following:

- Get a tattoo done in the morning

- Take a painkiller before getting it done

- Wear loose clothing

- Make sure you eat plenty beforehand

- Make sure that the place you're getting it done is a sterile environment and they are qualified people

A piercing is now usually done with needles because they are more sterile and safer than guns. When a needle is used, it usually feels like a sharp pinch.

I have no tatoos but i do have alot of friends (who arnt so good with pain) who have tatoos no problem. They say it hurts a little but by no means alot of pain. Especially a small tatoo. And just think, If it does hurt alot, if its a small tatoo then its going to be over quickly and a moment of pain is worth a lifetime of somthing. But even so, I dont no anybody who has been in pain whilst getting a tatoo.

good luck x x x
