writes:Need some advice and have been on internet but can't find any info.I basically need to know if your manager is on maternity leave can she get you in trouble?I have acess to my facebook and usually update my status on breaks etc.. Now I didn't realise but a woman I have on my friend list is also my managers mate and know eachother quite well so I'm slightly concerned because a couple of my status have said I'm bored at work etc.. I'm worried this lady may tell my manager.There's nothing offensive about work but could I get in trouble even though she is on maternity and finds out?

 I'll never understand why people do this sort of thing. Is it really necessary to broadcast to the world your every waking moment?
People get fired for this kind of behaviour all the time. Besides, who really cares if you're bored at work? Who isn't from time to time?

Go to the privacy settings on Facebook here: http://www.facebook.com/settings/?tab=privacy , make sure the setting that is highlighted is Friends Only. Then click Apply these settings.

All four links (and others I haven't posted) refer to people who have put comments on their facebook sites and have been fired for it. You need to delete those comments NOW. You can be legally fired.

 Delete those posts ASAP and don't post anything like that again. My rule of thumb is don't post anything I wouldn't want my mother to read.
It's amazing how naive people are about facebook. My husband's company does a search on anyone who is being considered for hiring. They find all kinds of bizarre things on facebook and more than one potential employee has lost a job offer based on the stuff they find there.
People post pictures of themselves drinking, flashing body parts, making out, basically all the social stuff that didn't get recorded in the past. Now it is, and it can wreck a career before it even begins.
Think about each post before you put it up and assume it is broadcast to the world. EVERYONE has access to it, is how you should be looking at it. EVERYONE, boss, mother, future boyfriend, your kids someday.
It's very tempting to use facebook as some sort of party central/confessional/stream of consciousness, but trust me, it is a very bad idea from a professional standpoint.

There was something in the news about a high-ranking Police Officer (potential Head of the Police Force at Scotland Yard) who posted something on facebook similar to what you're describing and ended up getting sacked. Like any situation, you need to be careful about what you post on the internet. You do and say things that you wouldn't normally do, and in a work situation or not it can cause problems.
