A reader, anonymous, writes (8 December 2010):

You lose your virginity when you have sex -- sex being the penis penetrating the vagina. So yes; you are still a virgin.

Can I suggest you pay attention in biology/sex ed next time?

A female reader, chigirl Norway +, writes (8 December 2010):

chigirl agony auntYes you are still a virgin. But he couldn't have put his hand inside you, it's too big, most likely it was a few fingers.

Don't let him do it again if you're not ready for it!!!

A reader, anonymous, writes (8 December 2010):

Yes you're still a virgin. The only way you will loose your virginity is when he enters his penis into your vagina. No matter how long he does it, how deep, how many times, if he puts his penis in, you've lost your virginity.

But yes if it was anything else then you still are.

By the way by 'hand' do you mean his fingers, or his ACTUAL hand? If his hand, I'm not surprised you bled! You need to tell him to stop that. Ouch.

A female reader, largentsgirl89 United States +, writes (8 December 2010):

largentsgirl89 agony auntHis hand? His whole hand? If he used his entire hand you need to inform him that was too extreme and he needs to be more gentle with you, a lot more gentle with you.

The definition of a virgin is a woman who has never had sexual intercourse. Virginity is the state of being a virgin. It is derived from the Latin virgo, which means "sexually inexperienced woman" and by this definition yes, you are still a virgin because you two didn't engage in sexual intercourse (insertion of his penis into your vagina).

The blood, especially since you are a virgin, could have been a few things. Since he was using his hand and your body isn't used to that, it tore or perhaps you were dry when he had his hand in you. Your hymen could have torn.

You should be okay, but make sure you tell your boyfriend to more more careful and a lot more gentle with you.

A male reader, Dr.LanceMerryweather United Kingdom +, writes (8 December 2010):

Dr.LanceMerryweather agony auntYes, you are definitely still a virgin. You only lose that status when having had penetrative sex.(Penis enters vagina) Also, may I suggest that you be a little more assertive with your boyfriend inasmuch as telling him what he should and should not do. It is YOUR body and if he hurts you in any way, tell him to stop immediately. In my opinion, given your relative inexperience, he should only be playing with your clitoris but most lads that age don't have much of a clue, thinking that cramming a whole hand in is what a girl wants. He needs to be guided as to what a girl likes.

Good luck.

A female reader, Tisha-1 United States +, writes (8 December 2010):

Tisha-1 agony auntIs your hymen intact? Probably not, after that incident. His entire hand? That's FAR too rough and FAR too aggressive. Make sure he understands that. If it hurts, tell him to STOP.

Are you a virgin? If it had been a penis, you would no longer be considered a virgin. As it was a hand, by today's definition of virginity, you are still a virgin.

You have to be in charge of your own safety and well-being. Do not let this boy put his entire hand in your vagina. That is far too much and of course will hurt and make you bleed. See your gynecologist if you are still in pain, as there may be an infection caused by the injury.

Take good care of yourself, okay?

A female reader, k_c100 United Kingdom +, writes (8 December 2010):

k_c100 agony auntYes you are still a virgin - you only lose your virginity when a penis enters your vagina.

The blood sounds like it could have been your hymen breaking or just your boyfriend being too rough with you (if he put a whole hand inside you then this is very bad and should not try anything as extreme as this).

Tell your boyfriend to be more gentle with you from now on and only try and pleasure you with his fingers, not his hand.

I hope this helps and good luck!
