Why would he say he had Gulf War Syndrome if he'd never been in the military?

Question - (17 April 2009) 2 Answers - (Newest, 17 April 2009)
A female United Kingdom age 41-50, anonymous writes:

My husband came home from work yesterday and told me he has got Gulf War Syndrome.

This doesn't make sense to me, as he's an office worker in a local distribution firm, and has never served in the military at all. Why would you say you had Gulf War Syndrome if you've never been in the military?

I tried to find out why he thinks he has it, but he kept evading my questions, and insisting that he had Gulf War Syndrome.

He refuses to see a doctor about it, claiming "I'm fit enough for work, no need for doctors!"

What should I do to deal with this, as I can't fathom why he would just say that out of the blue.

Anyone able to help me?? I'm unable to get much further with this, and communication hasn't helped, so I need all the help I can get!

A male reader, ArmyMedic United Kingdom +, writes (17 April 2009):

ArmyMedic agony auntAre you sure he hasn't had a secret life in the SAS during the early 90's? Does he write books under the name of McNab?

Has he been involved in Medical Research or is he really dim, seen a car accident and had a nightmare afterwards, and thinks he has PTSD, which many people mistakenly think is "Gulf War Syndrome"

But then again GWS has not been proven to be related to Operation Granby, so maybe he has the syndrome and the MOD are telling the truth and it has nothing to do with the Gulf War at all.

I say get him to Porton Down in Wiltshire ASAP!

Ok,

a) he's taking the mick and you have over reacted to it and he's found it hysterical so he's carrying on.

b) he's talking about post traumatic stress disorder, he's seen something traumatic and in his mind, he's been affected by it.

Next time he says it just laugh at him and tell him you have "Need New Shoes Syndrome." He'll have to justify himself if you don't believe him and keep laughing and spending his money on expensive shoes.

Good Luck!! xx
