i've started eating really healthy and exercising is there anyway i can lose 3 stone in 3 months it's really important as i'm starting college soon and need that extra confidence boost, i've been eating healthy in moderation but now i'm thinking of cutting out chocolate all together for 3 months to get this weight off.

k_c100 agony auntOk thats a pretty unrealistic target and if you do manage to lose 3 stone in 3 months then I guarantee you will put it all back on within 6 months, maybe even double the amount.

The best way to lose weight is slowly and steadily, around 1-2lbs a week. It depends on how much you weigh and your height to begin with - if you are very overweight then you will find for the 1st month or 2 that you can lose larger amounts of weight each week. However if you are a normal weight or only slightly overweight then you will lose the weight more slowly and you shouldnt push your body into losing it any faster, it will damage your health.

It sounds like you are doing all the right things, make sure you are exercising at least 3 times a week for an hour at a time, and eat healthily and the weight will come off. Cutting out white foods (apart from milk) is a good idea to get the weight off - so no white bread, white pasta, white rice or potatoes. Change all the white food for the brown versions - brown bread, wholewheat pasta and brown rice. The brown versions are much better for you as they are not processed, they release the energy in them much slower so you feel full for longer and they wont make you retain so much water so you wont feel/look bloated.

With the chocolate, cutting it out is good and will certainly help, but if you really struggle without it then try only having 1 snacksize bar a day. I find snack size milky ways and snack size maltesers are great if you want a chocolate fix for under 100 calories!

Just remember to do this slowly, it has been proven that if you lose weight steadily you are much more likely to keep the weight off. If you lose it rapidly on a crash diet then as soon as you come off the diet it will all go back on again. So make permanent changes to your lifestyle that you can maintain forever, not quick fixes! Aim to lose 24lbs in the next 3 months (based on 3 months = 12 weeks, 2lbs a week = 24lbs). That works out at just under 2 stone. If you lose this weight, you will already be 2 dress sizes smaller and you will look loads different.

Honeypie agony auntLoosing a lot of weight in a short period of time usually backfires.. Meaning you will get the weight RIGHT back on.

You could cut sugar and starch to a minimum and stick to as many raw veggies as possible, but I truly suggest you talk to a dietician who can make a plan that suits YOU, your age, activity-level and your body type.

Fatherly Advice agony auntA stone a month is about twice as fast as experts say you should lose weight. Any diet that makes you entirely give up something you love / crave / need, will fail because you will hate it and give up or cheat. I would recommend, sight unseen and with no background, Lowering your total calorie intake and increasing your activity level. Be smart about this, get some professional advice. And enjoy about one ounce of dark chocolate 2 times a week. Dark chocolate has more of the good stuff your body craves, and less sugar and fat. The key to successful dieting is to include the things you love in small amounts.

I can't tell you that you'll lose 3 stone in 3 months but you're certainly on the right track. 3 stone is a lot of weight to be losing, and if you're not seriously over weight then maybe you should set your goal to a lower amount of weight, as you don't want to become under weight. There's nothing wrong with cutting out chocolate, but there's also nothing wrong with having chocolate as a treat :). It's great that you want a fresh start with college, but be careful and don't go overboard, as losing weight can become obsessive!
