So_Very_Confused agony auntdogs belong on the bed not outside.

if you don't like her dog then end it if she's not willing to give him up.

I gave up my dogs for various reasons but they are with folks that i see so I see the pets and it's better for them....

you can't expect her to give up her dog nor can you mandate that a dog live outside.

CindyCares agony aunt What did you expect , when you started dating ? That she would give up her dog for you once and for all ? If so... how come she did not know that ? how come she was not told in advance of your No dogs inside policy, BEFORE she moved in ? You are not a dog person and that's fine, tastes are tastes, but then how can you think that getting involved with a dog owner had no consequences ? It's a bit like dating a single mom - then deciding that you don't like kids and if she wants to move in she must leave her child behind.

Your house , your rules , sure. Then again , don't be too surprised if, forced to a choice, she chooses to leave you nice and alone to enjoy in peace your house and your rules.

A female reader, Honeypie United States + , writes (5 May 2012):

Honeypie agony auntIt would depend on the breed? And how it was raised? It's age? Where you live? Not all dogs are outdoor dogs.

Though bottom line, it's your place, your rules. But I think it's one of those things that can easily break the relationship.

If I were her. I'd pick my pet over a guy.

Where was her dog over those last 5 months?

I have 3 cats, they spend plenty of time in their out-door run, but they have the whole house to roam as their please. I keep a clean house and clean cats, most people are surprised that I have cats, let alone 3 when they come to my house.

A female reader, Aunty BimBim Australia +, writes (5 May 2012):

Aunty BimBim agony auntWhere has the dog been living since she moved in with you? Did she move in, thinking she could change your mind once she had been there for a few months?

Why wasnt the fact she owns a dog discussed at the time of her moving in, surely you were involved in a discussion fo some sort about what would happen to the dog?

Me, I have a dog and two cats. The dog spends most of daylight hours outside, but sleeps inside the house. The cats do whatever, whenever they want.

I would not arrange to move house without making sure my animals were cared for and their safe future assured.

I need to ask, did you know she had a dog when she moved in with you and what arrangments did she make then for the dog?

If you didn't know she had a dog when she moved in I would be asking some serious questions about what else she has neglected to tell you about.

A reader, anonymous, writes (4 May 2012):

What kind of dog is it? I am not one to have dogs/cats inside anymore since getting older. I could deal with a small dog inside if I had to for someone I cared about. But there would definitely be a "3 strikes" and the pooch is out the door deal.
