Ok. I just wanted to do a poll to see if I'm alone here, turns out I am! Hehe. I know its legal, bc the law considers 18 to be the age when adulthood has been reached. Also, I understand that 7 yrs is not a huge age gap...when you're 32 and 25. But I feel as though 18 is closer to childhood than to maturity. And by 25, you should be in a different place in life than a person who just graduated high school. The 18y/o has so little life experience and should be free to make mistakes, find his/her self, learn and grow with someone who is on a similar playing field. Even if s/he is not a virgin...even if they are quite experienced sexually, I feel as though this may be further proof that they need to spend a little time maturing and developing a stronger sense of self instead of being, in one person's opinion, preyed upon by someone who should know better.

Thanks to everyone who shared input!

The Realist agony auntYou are both adults and could be in very similar walks of life so there is no reason why it would be inapropriate. You can't help who you have feelings for. The age gap will stay the same but yet every year it will seem to shrink smaller and smaller. I know plenty of couples that are up to ten years apart and when younger it does seem strange but as you get older no one thinks twice about it.

Odds agony auntIf it's the guy who is older, sounds fine to me. Relationships where the guy is a bit older are fine. My own dad is 7 years than my mom, so it's the same difference.

Generally, I don't see it working with an older woman/younger guy, but if the couple wants to, I don't see anything inappropriate with it.

Have fun!

A female reader, person12345 United States +, writes (6 April 2011):

person12345 agony auntIt's legal for someone over the age of 18 to have sex with anyone else over the age of 18. So legally an 18 year old could have sex with someone who's 100 (so long as they're mentally capable of consent). As for appropriate, I know this rule is childish, but it seems to work surprisingly well. How to tell if someone is age appropriate is to take the older person's age, divide it by 2, then add 7. So the youngest appropriate person a 26 year old could date is 20.

Why wouldn't two pleople bothering no one have the freedom to do as they please. Who deems anyone master of whats appropriate or not for two adults. Easy way to think of this is to keep your moral to yourself and live by them, that way we all can get along live together.

Sure, why not? When I was 20 I had an intimate relationship with a 48 year old. I know, some of you will that repulsive. That's not the issue here. The issue is that there is nothing wrong with an 18 year old and a 25 year old having sex. There is definately nothing wrong with a college sophomore and a 26 year old having sex. I think when you start to involve feelings in the relationship it could get complicated, particularly with an 18 year old and a 25 year old. Just sex? Rock out with your c*** out.

IF the two parties involved are both in agreement that it's a good thing I see no problem with it.

18 to 25 is only 7 years.

Try 37 to 51.
