Hello all. This may not be a relationship question, but I could really use your advice.

All of my college assignments must be handed in by Monday afternoon. I have been a good student. I've put a lot of effort into my work over the past 2 years. But I have a lot of fears about my final results. You see, I was given two assignments earlier in the year, just like everybody else. However, our tutor for the subject wasn't very good at teaching us. As a result, the deadline was missed, and now whenever myself and everybody else on the course hands it in, we can only get a "pass" grade.

In order to get to university, I need 3 overall "Merit" grades. The grading system goes like this:

Distinction ---- Merit ---- Pass

In the past week, my head tutor told me I was on target to get atleast 3 Merits, which was great news. But now because of the two assignments I have as yet failed to hand in, I worry (perhaps irrationally) that my overall grade will suffer, and therefore, won't allow me to go to university. Worse yet, it will have meant that all the good and hard work that I've done over the past 2 years will have all been for nothing.

Is it possible that I'm just nervous, knowing that I have put my grade in jeopardy, and that all this IS irrational worrying? I am in a lot of distress to the extent that I can't sleep tonight. In which case, does anybody have any tips on trying to calm myself? There's no way for me to know how much this can damage my grade until Monday, so until then I'd like to handle this in the calmest way possible.

Please help me.

Hi Andy,

If your on your break and have time to read this then I've got a little secret. It can be done. When I was young I managed to produce five english essays in one night to boost my grade and grab the top grade. You just got to get down to it and start trying to enjoy what your doing.

Lock your room, fix it up for studying, put on some music, sharpen pencils, set the clock for an hour and then just do the best you can do. Prentend your in an exam, and focus and concentrate. After an hour, hour and 1/2, take a break, leave the room and go and do something nice. Talk to your family, have something to eat, call a friend. Keep this schedule up untill this afternoon, then take a couple of hours break. Repeat this evening, then put your work away and have fun. Repeat tomorrow, cross your fingers, go to bed and hope for the best.

Andy00 agony auntI did eventually get to sleep last night. These answers were a nice thing to wake up to. If I had time maybe I'd go to a remedy store, but I'm short of it as you know. Still, a very good suggestion.

I will just have to wait and see what happens from this, but I'm praying that I haven't ruined my chances of success. I've pulled out of work specially for getting work done today, so now I guess is a good time to do just that!! Thanks for your help

lexilou agony auntPop to the herbal shop and ask for something like 'calms' or 'bach' remedy, they may make you feel better even if it is only psychologically. Next plan what you have to do and tackle one assignment at a time and do your best. If worse comes to the worse will they allow you an extension? but obviously dont do nothing all weekend thinking they will give you one as then you will be in a worse pickle.

Remove distractions get a pile of nice food you like, stick some relaxing music on if it helps take some deep breaths and do your best. Good luck x

What the hell are you doing on here, you don't have any time to waste. You still have two days before monday before you have to get the work in. Stop procrastinating and putting things off and get back to work or go to sleep and start working in the morning.

Worry is a waste of time and energy. It serves no usefull purporse. If you've finished your work, then forget about it and go out and enjoy yourself, untill school on Monday. You can start worrying on Tuesday when you get the advice and knowledge you need about your grades.

Minelisse agony auntHi there...

You need to relax and calm down in order to concentrate sufficiently to finish your school work. Try using some calming tea or making some type of exercise to get your stress down. Make a schedule of the work to be done, divide the next days into small tasks with deadlines to be accomplished. Do a wrap up at night and be sure to include some time during the day to rest, talk to family and friends and do something that makes you laugh. We always need to laugh!

We all have these periods in school and the truth is there is not more to do than to do your best! Hope it helps a bit!
