My husband and I had an argument this morning about anal sex. He doesn't want to do it because he says the bum isn't a sexual organ. Is that true?

You're both right kind of...

The "bum" isn't a "reproductive organ", if that is what he was meaning by "sexual" any more than the mouth or even the breasts!

This is a very narrow definition of sexual though and could lead to even saying the vagina is not a sexual organ, as theoretically you could have a cesarian to both put the semen in and take the baby out.

The bum is, has always been and always will be a sexual organ if you use the broader definition of being an organ that you derive sexual satisfaction from, as would be the skin, the lips, the fingers, the tongue, etc etc.

The anus has more sensitive nerve endings than the vagina and for men, the G-Spot is inside the rectum. (God loves his little practical jokes :-) )

A male reader, anonymous, writes (25 November 2008):

It's quite obvious the bum or mouth is used for masturbationary purposes. This does not make them a sexual organ anymore than your armpit.

Hence you are not having sex but masturbating using part of the others body.

The penis and vagina are the sexual organs of the male and female body respectively.

Here endeth lesson one in human biology.

Take a break it's a lot to take in.

You know what's more funny? A lot of women would consider themselves lucky to have a husband like yours that doesn't want anal sex, and a lot of men would consider themselves lucky for having a wife like you that wants it :P

I personally think it's disgusting though.

Sodomy is destructive to the anal hole, and should be used for exit only. why does a feeling like taking a big poo turn anybody on? doesn't it smell too? to me they are bored people and need stimulation of the brain.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (23 November 2008):

Every part of the human body has sensory pleasure receptors in it.. could be your arse or your elbow. Whatever turns you on. The skin is the biggest organ and it senses pleasure or pain. The man's G spot otherwise known as prostrate gland serves a very important biological function, reproduction etc etc.

Quite right on one thing, can't educate the ignorant!

A female reader, anonymous, writes (23 November 2008):

I would say NO it isn't...its just another area of the body that brings some couples pleasure, like a tongue in the ear, this does not make your ear a sexual organ. I hope you didn't bet money on this argument because you lose in my vote. I don't think you should make him feel bad for not wanting to do it....

Whether it is or it isn't nobody should have to do anything sexual they do not want to. Try and think of something else you could both enjoy.

Only a total idiot would consider the bum a sexual organ. If it was, you could have a baby by having anal sex. Two men could have a baby also. Come on, my 3 year old could tell you it's what you poo out of.
