reader, anonymous, writes (18 July 2007): No, it's not illegal to be dating or be engaged to someone who's not a minor when you are as long as you aren't sexually involved. As long as you don't get sexually involved with each other until you are 16 (otherwise he will get in huge trouble with the police if found out about) and you don't feel forced to lose it when you do turn 16 then the relationship does sound fine as long as you don't rush into things, e.g. get married at 16 followed by kids. Settling down early isn't the answer.

 I agree with raychell. Think long and hard about why you think this 18 year old wants to be with a 15 year old before you get engaged.
Your relationship won't be illegal if there is no sex. But if there is any sexual contact then he could go to prison.
I would check what State you are in against how old the legal age is for sex as some States are 16 and some are 18.

 I understand your problem. But you have to think why would an 18 year old want to get engaged to a 15 year old girl. Im not saying that your not attractive or anything like that but your young and you still have all your life ahead of you. I dont mean to put doubts into your head about him but do you really think hes the one for you. Not many 15 year olds know what is involved in a relationship and you might not be ready for it. But as long as there is no sexual activity at all untill you are 16 then no it isnt illegal.
