A male reader, anonymous, writes (5 September 2008):

Yep, that's the deal.

If he wants a test, then he's got a right to demand it before taking on the legal responsibilities of this baby.

I'm sorry that it might be better for you not to know the truth, but your want of better support does not outweigh his right not to be punished for something he didn't do. (Like what if he used birth control and your other man didn't?)

And it's better for the child in the long run to know the truth from the start. IT WILL COME OUT EVENTUALLY, trust me. In the next few decades, DNA testing will be more and more common. It may become necessary just to get heath insurance coverage for example.

A female reader, Emilysanswers United Kingdom +, writes (3 September 2008):

Well if you do not know who the father is then you will just have to wait till after it is born and do a DNA test.

You may be a single mum, but it's not impossible.

Unfortunately if you cheat and have unprotected sex then you have to face the consequences.

I'm really sorry hun.

Good Luck!! xx

Frank B Kermit agony auntBy all means, get the DNA test done. Your child deserves to know who the father is.
