I'm 18 so should I bring my 24 year old boyfriend to the prom with me or would it make everyone there uncomfortable?

Hi, I saw someone else recently post a question about their prom and an older boyfriend so I figured I would post too.

I'm 18 and have been dating my 24 year old boyfriend for quite a while. I always just assumed I'd be taking him as my date to prom (as there is no age limit on dates), but now I'm starting to think it could be an issue.

I don't have a problem with the age gap but I know some people do...I wouldn't want anyone at prom to feel uncomfortable having a 24 year old guy there. Would it be really inappropriate for him to be at a prom surrounded by 18 year olds?

It's not at our school, it's being held at this very upscale hotel so I figured I could just dress him up nice (he looks younger than he is) and pass him off as younger.

But if I thought that other kids or teachers would feel weird at all knowing his age I guess I wouldn't bring him.

Any thoughts?

Hi again guys, it's me. Well now the only person worried is my boyfriend. He's suddenly started saying he doesn't want me to ruin my prom by bringing an older guy and he's acting all weird about the age thing. His insecurities are starting to make ME feel like being with him is wrong now because he's so much older.

Agh, what do I do??

TasteofIndia agony auntGirl, it's YOUR prom. And, unless there's rules prohibiting it, I think you should bring who you want. It's your night, your memories and most importantly, YOUR date. No one else is the one out with him. No one should feel weird because of his age. They'll probably be jealous, yes. But still... you go with who you want to go. And him being your boyfriend, and all - I think he'd be the best choice.

It's not inappropriate to bring someone special to the prom, and if he's your someone special - he's not really that much older. Unless he feels weird about it, go for it.

Have fun at the prom, sweetness.
