I want to try being a transgender hooker. What are the pros and cons?

A male United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

I am a male who loves crossdress on a regular basis. I am small in stature and a bit feminine so I have no problem passing. I have dated and have had sex with men as well as women. Last month I decided to take a vacation in a city that has a big transgender community. While there I met a trans girl who is a prostitute. After hanging out with her for the night I asked her if she could take me along with her when she works. To be honest I wanted to try working as a transgender hooker. As it is I spent two days working the streets and can tell you that I made a lot of money and enjoyed it as well. I am planning to move to the city and make this my full time profession. I understand the dangers involved and health risks however pleasing men and getting paid for it is so intoxicating to me. Looking for some advice both pro and con.

I am all for people been 'true to themselves' but a little sad that you think selling yourself is your true destiny. Good luck anyway, whatever path you choose.

Dear OP,

Ok, here comes my list of pro's and con's for you:

PROs:

- a job where you don't need real qualifications (sorry, being young and transgender doesn't count)

- self esteem boost because people pay to sleep with you, which might make you feel attractive

- maybe feeling more feminine because being a hooker is associated with women

CONs:

- extremely high risk of getting an STD from oral or unprotected sex, a broken condom etc. (please note: I'm not just talking HIV, there are syphilis, gonorrhea, herpes, hepatitis A,B,C,D and E..)

- extremely high risk of getting raped sooner or later or urged into something you don't like, being stalked, robbed or even murdered (don't underestimate how scary and traumatising this is even if you can escape or survive)

- no health insurance, no secure income (if you are sick and can't work, you won't earn anything, no payed holidays, no bonuses)

- a lot of competition from people that will do the same thing for cheaper

- the longer you're out of a "real" job, the smaller your chances to get back into one if you should get sick of prostitution

- no career opportunities, which will become a bigger problem once you're getting older

- high risk of a troubled private live if you ever fall in love with someone and want to have a serious relationship

- high risk of becoming very disillusioned about the meaning of love or sex or intimacy

Having been a very stupid woman myself, I once had a short phase of soft core prostitution (erotic massage). Even this "harmless" experience was very disillusioning about men/love/me. What I found the worst was the acting part: You sell your soul. You give your tenderness, your body, you fake your affection.. for someone you don't love or even like or maybe find downright disgusting. That leaves you very, very empty.

There is a reason why most people don't want to be prostitutes. It's a really bad deal in the end.

What you experienced was the adrenaline rush of an adventure, the pleasure of doing something forbidden. I know this feeling and it's like a drug.

But please try to imagine doing this every day of your life, without a choice. If you chose being a hooker, this will be your salary, not some pocket money that you make on a fun trip on the weekend. This will have to pay all your bills, no matter if you're horny or not, no matter if you're tired or in a bad mood.

From what I read, you clearly have no idea of the risks of this job. It may seem as an easy way out of your current life, a way to feel happy in your transgendered body, a thrill with a hint of dark glamour, but it's a trap.

You want sex. You want to feel desired. You need money to survive. You wish to live in a bigger city and get into a bigger transgender community. Fine. But prostitution is not the answer to all your wishes. You can change your live for the better, but with other means. Small steps. Not chaotic and dangerous decisions.

I am sorry this post is so long, I'll stop now. But I am sure that somewhere, even YOU doubt it's a healthy decision. If not, you wouldn't have posted this question.

person12345 agony auntYour odds of getting murdered doing this are 1 in 500 and your odds of getting raped and/or beaten are greater than your odds of not getting raped/beaten. Not worth it. If you have another option, do that.

I want to thank you all for your answers.

You are correct in that I may have to give someone half of what I earn.

To anonymous; I did try going the porno route. I actually did a 20 minute porno but here is how it went and why I abandoned that route. I first made an appointment to try out for a part in a private porno. The director requested that I show up in a red mini dress and red 5 inch heels.

The shoes I had but I had to go out and buy the dress. I had to audition. Then I had to do a 5 minute test shot with one of the guys in the video to see if we were compatible on screen. Then I had to buy a short leather skirt and 5 inch heeled thigh high boots for the video.

More money out of my pocket. Onto the video; when you figure in what I had to spend on the skirt, dress and boots I made almost nothing. So ended my very short porno career.

Well cons you could go to jail. Pro you would enjoy life because your doing something you enjoy. Con aids (of course) pro you could get it out of your system before you get older Con you can't do it forever & when you were ouy doing this others would have put in time so there salarys are going to be higher & they will be your boss. In other words youcant really advance in this job. You will only decline as you age. Pro you would have money to go to school & the hours to make it possible. I say just do it on weekends. Keep your day job. Theres proubably more money on weekends anyway

fishdish agony auntI think my biggest concern is safety. You will probably be compensated more for no condom but sex tourism is an industry that is responsible for spreading a lot of stds around. Do more research on the dangers of sex tourism before you commit to the job.

A reader, anonymous, writes (3 February 2013):

Times are tough I know. The money is probably easy and right now you enjoy the sex.

You are still young. It becomes a dead end job pretty quickly though. Whether you were a man or a woman I would tell you not to do that. There is no future in it at all.

Then, if you luck out and don't get arrested or get sick or something and you find a more reputable career and personal life then you will always have that on your back. Or, look into being a porn star.

At least they have medical benefits and have all these checks and balances for you and the people you will work with to try and protect you against any viruses. They test all the time.

Being a prostitute is never as glamorous as it seems.
