Me and my partner of six years have recently split up it was both our choice. And I knew the years I have been with him I had put on weight slowly but yesturday I stepped on the scales and the number I saw was shocking! 15 stone, I felt like crying. The thing is I fit into size 12 clothes so don't understand why I'm 15 stone as I'm not really tall just 5 ft 5 and I also have very big boobs. I mean 15 stone is a hell of a lot for a girl to weigh and I'm so upset. I am now going to do all it takes to lose this weight, but I can't afford the gym, and what's the best diet I could go on and don't cost too much? Please help..I need to lose this weight!

Hi, I have been on a diet for the last 2 weeks, so not very long.

But like you I can't afford all of these diet foods all the time.

So, I have been eating normal stuff and just counting the calories. So I have a daily intake of 1000-1500 calories now and I drink plenty of water, and I walk EVERYWHERE!

Once a week I have a treat, bag of chips, or a pizza or chocolate bar because supposedly it speeds up the metabolism to have a treat once a week :)

Swimming is really good exercise, so that's about £2 once or twice a week. So, in 2 weeks, just from doing the above I have lost 9.5lbs. Going good so far :) :) The best time to exercise is early in the morning. So take an early trek or like someone said, running up and down the stairs a few times.

Skipping is excellent. Your calves will look killer if you stick to it. If you have a Wii, invest in a Just Dance game or get a dance mat. Dance mats are supposed to be epic exercise and you have fun while you sweat the calories out :P I keep a diet journal to keep track of what I have eaten, it is sooo helpful.

If you drink a lot of pop, like coke, switch to the diet ones. It makes a HUGE difference. I was so shocked when my friend lost a stone and he wasn't even on a diet, and he rarely exercises. He just cut out the pop. It also helps if someone is doing the diet with you. Good luck. :) :)

hi. I am 15 and a half stone and 5 ft 7 (size 14 in tops, 16/18 in trousers) so dont feel like you are alone here please. you probably have heavy bones (its not just an excuse) if you are that weight and height and clothes size, some peoples bones are denser than others and that is a good thing as theres less chance you will get osteoporosis when you are older. the only diet to follow Im afraid is a healthy food diet, dont even think about fad diets they are a waste of time and you will put on more weight not lose it. believe me my friend has gone from 70kg to 95 kg in 4 years mainly from dieting. you can go for walks which is free, and also running up and down the stairs is very good exercise. also google home exercises for ideas and instead of buying weights you can fill up 2 litre bottles with water and use them as 2kg weights. good luck and remember its small changes that go a long way.

Honeypie agony auntYou can do a lot of exercises at home on the floor of your living room.

You might have to go out and spend a little on a couple of dumbbells, but you can actually use two water bottles filled with rice or sand to start with.

I would also find your goal calorie intake and stick to it. Drop sugar and starch from your diet. When I say starch, I mean white bread, white pasta, white rice. Go wholegrain.

Try and stay away from frozen dinners and canned goods. Same goes for fast food and fired stuff, however, IF you find yourself in a spot where you need to eat NOW and all there is is McD - go for a chicken club, no fries and water/tea.

And read the labels and weight your portions til you are comfortable knowing how much you actually eat. Water, water and water drink a good 8 glasses a day.

Spread your meals out. Eat no later then 90 min after you wake up.

Nuts, fruit, vegetables are GREAT snacks. Vegetables are a GREAT source fibers, vitamins and a great "filler" in meals. I have both fresh and frozen vegetables in my house at all times.

I only eat red meat 1-2 times a month. I actually rather eat fish/foul for my proteins.

Keep a food journal. Igoogle has a calorie tracker and there are many apps for cellphones that can do that same. So keep track of EVERYTHING you eat.

I even have chocolate every now and then. I buy some lovely organic dark chocolate chips and add it with fruits.

It's all about moderation.

That's quite a weight tell you the truth considering your height and age. That's 210 lb, I frAnkly don't understand how you get into size 12. I was your weight several years ago, now I m 135-137 lb with muscles.

It took me a whole year to come to this.

I understand your frustration, and looks like you are very determined to do it.

I have to strongly disagree with a theory, all in moderation. No, you have stop putting bad food in your body, even in moderation. No mcDonalds even in moderation, no chicken wings, pizzas and so on.

I did a lot of research before I started loosing weight, and started to discover many bad things about meat industry. I went as far as became a . vegetarian. I needed to be careful though as I m anemic, I needed my protein. I bought vegan protein powder and made several shakes a day with fresh fruits and vegetAbles.

There was no calorie counting. When I stoped bying packaged food and ate most pf the day raw fruit, berries and veggies, my pounds were melting of me every week. I completely excluded any kind of bread, pasta and pasta products. Replaced it with brown rice, buckwheat and beans.

Protein is everywhere, just your research online and see how much protein each non meat products have.

Good luck to you, you can do it. At your age is easier than in mine

Like misfitschik suggested--counting your calories works and you can pretty much eat what you want, but in limited quantities of course. I lost weight also by counting calories. What worked for me was downloading a calorie tracker app onto my phone, so whatever I ate I could log it onto my food diary. Another cool thing with it, is it came with a barcode scanner, so I could scan the barcode and it would have the info programmed into it already which was nice.

As far as working out, there's plenty you can do around the house just using your own body weight. I have hardwood floors, so I have a yoga matt and I just do ab exercises that I know and health magazines a lot of the time have great routines and new moves that don't require anything expensive or really anything at all sometimes.

A male reader, Sageoldguy1465 United States +, writes (11 August 2012):

Sageoldguy1465 agony auntThe "formula" for weight loss is crystal clear (to EVERYBODY... if they'll simply pay attention!!!)... To wit:

Eat fewer calories (food) than the calories that you "burn".... Where's the need for a gym????? Do you have roads/trails/sidewalks near your home??? Get your bottom out there and take brisk walks (Some people carry weights whilest they walk. I couple of cans of beans constitute "weights"!!!!!)...

IF you are prepared to claim that the lack of a "gym" is your excuse for not shedding the pounds (or, "stones") that you'd like to use.... then your facade is quite transparent... and you really AREN'T as interested in losing weight as you claim!!!

Good luck.... We look forward to hearing of you success...

misfitschik66 agony auntIt may not be the fastest way but how I lost 20 pounds in 4 months by counting my calories

the bigger you are the more weight you will loose and smaller you are it will take a little while depending on how much you want to loose

i use www.livestrong.com as a tool to help me calculate how much a day i can have in calories and how much a week i want to loose

right now i have a set calories intake for the day at 1400 and set to loose 1 pound a week (i could do two pounds a week) BUT i love food!!! lol

i pretty much eat anything i want during the day as long as it's in my calorie "budget" for the day(1400)

yesturday i friggen ate mcdonalds! lol i took up 800 calories of my calories but i needed calories fast because i didn't eat anything all day at it was nearing dinner time(which i don't suggest)

you will feel hungry after at the end of the night when you have filled your calories but that feeling will go away as you continue doing this method and eventually you will train your body to not be eating a boat load and you will become full faster

you could try this way see if it's something you want to continue and if you don't notice a difference in a month then at least it wont be a complete waste because at least you've trained your body to eat meal portions and which is a really good thing to go with any other diet you may end up trying
