Hi :) i'm currently taking the pill (Microgynon 30) and it makes me feel so nauseus for a few hours each day and I hate it! I started it about 2 months ago and took it for a month, it made me ill but I continued taking it. Then I had the week's break but I just didnt resume taking it after the week as I knew how sick it made me feel and also my boyfriends away for a month anyway. Anyway I began taking it again 2 days ago and today I just don't know if I can bring myself to take it again! Its not unbareable but its not nice, especially as im an active person. Also I passed my driving test 6 days ago and when im feeling sick I know my full attention is not on the road which is worrying because I do have to drive a lot of places. Any advice or prehaps something to take to counteract the sickness, altho im reluctant to take more pills than I have too, help!

There are plenty of other contraceptive pills you can try, a good one is called Yasmin, I was getting sick from the brand you are one now, I was told to try another one and I've been fine ever since.

Thank you! I got it from a sexual health clinic at college, but obviously thats not open in the holidays, but im sure I can find another one in town and hopefully they can let me try something else. I always use condoms anyway, but (although its never happened to me) a lot of my friends have had the condom split on them more than once which is why id rather be safe :)

Also just to clarify, when I feel sick I don't drive, I just sit in the car and wait for it to pass, it just makes me a bit late for things sometimes! Thanks for all your answers!

A female reader, BettyBoup United Kingdom +, writes (16 August 2010):

BettyBoup agony auntI have been on the same pill as you are, and I too got feelings of nausea from it, so you're not alone there. Unfortunatly all forms of contraception have a drawback or side effect, and hormone methods like the pill, injection and implant often have effects on the way your body works such as nausea, weight gain etc. The good news is, your body will get used to the hormones and the side effects should go. But you need to keep taking the pill for about 6 months before you can be sure if the side effects will go or not. If you still get the sickness, it is worth trying a different pill or a different form of contraception altogether. There are many positive to taking the pill, such as reduced period pains, lighter periods and not having to worry about using condoms. But you have to weigh up the positives against the negatives to decide what is right for you.

Honeypie agony auntCall your doctor (who prescribed the pill to you and talk to him) This may be a short term side effect, it may be a "permanent" (as in while you take that product) thing. So call him and explain how it makes you feel, maybe you need to switch brand.

And ~congrats~ on getting your drivers license!

Over..worried. agony auntThe might be a chance that is is just the type and for some reason doesn't agree with your body. I would go to the your doctor and ask them. I know I was feeling sick from mine or I went instead of to a male doctor, to this nurse place and she changed me to a lower dose cause the higher one was making me sick too.

A female reader, Phoebe Halliwell United Kingdom +, writes (16 August 2010):

Phoebe Halliwell agony auntHey :)

First of all, well done for passing your driving test!

Every body is different, so we don't know how the pill or other forms of birth control are going to affect us. I would talk to your GP, explain your concerns and discuss the alternative forms of birth control, just so you can fully understand your options. If you're a bit nervous, talk to your mum or a friend about it and ask them to go with you.

Feeling a bit sick doesn't sound like anything serious, but I understand that it's not pleasant; and that it worries you when you have to drive (which is very responsible of you). Maybe after talking to your GP you can try a different form of birth control that hopefully won't give you the side effects that the pill does.

Hope this helped :)

Hi. i had this pill but i didn't get sick. I was however on my period for the entire month i was on it. I went to the local drop in and the nurse gave me a different type of pill to try called cilest and so far there have been no problems with.Maybe you should try a different pill that is better suited to you or think of other types of contraception

I think your best bet is to go to the GP.

Seriouly, we cannot help you with a problem like this; if you have a problem with your medication the can you not see that the best thing to do is go to your doctor?

There are lots of different contraceptive pills. If you go and see your gp then they may well put you onto another one if you explain your symptoms. Microgynon are the cheapest ones available to doctors so they usually try people out on those first. But, as I say, you should go back and explain you are not happy with them.

From what you say about it affecting your driving you need to stop taking them. If you cannot concentrate on the road then you need to stop driving until you can as well. If you cause an accident you will be culpable and the fact that your felt sick would not be a valid defence as you are not fit to drive if you know you cannot concentrate properly.

Go to the doctor and get it sorted.

A male reader, tomm_00 United Kingdom +, writes (16 August 2010):

hi, my girlfriend had the same problem, i have no idea what the pill was called all i know was that it was purple and gave her terrible pains, The pains were so bad that she was in tears, so i told her i didnt want her taking the pill that the doctor perscribed her, so we went back to the doctor and got a new pill.she said the new pill the doctor gave her was better it stoped giving her the pains and was smaller in size, witch is better for her because she has a phobia of swallowing pills. Go back to choices/doctors and ask for a diffrent type of the pill. Hope i helped
