writes:hi i was wondering how long should i wait after having sex 2 take a pregnancy test for it to work properly?i mean...im afraid i might be pregnant but i dont know if i take a pregnancy test now if its gonna work..i haven't got my period yet, gettin it next week (hopefully)but i dont wanna wait that long, if i did get pregnant it was on the 25th of march so it's been 12 days,if i get a test now is it gonna work?

i think 2 weeks cause my sis found out that she was preg wen she was 2 weeks preg and now im an aunt so id say take one now and at 4 weeks

cari is verified as being by the original poster of the question well i didnt wait the 4-6 weeks i mean i havent done the test coz my period was due last thurs wen it sud be and i still have it so i can take no test yet,i've bought one so i'll do it when my period is finished but i really doubt im pregnant!
about u..13?sure thats very young and u shouldn't feel like u "have" to have sex with someone but i understand u coz thats what happened to me just make sure not to do it again,think more of urself ok?u posted ur question on the 12th that mean u slept with ur man on the 11th...if i was u i'd wait at least 4 weeks coz u dont want get a false negative do u?so ye wait the 4 weeks then do the test.about STD's ders no way to find out if u have one if u dont go to te doctors,u probably cant tell ur man the reason u wanna go to the doctors so just make up an excuse,i know it should'nt be lying to ur parents but lets be realistic here,ur only 13 u obviously are not gonna tell them u had sex with some randomer!send me a mail if u want so we can talk in private.believe me i know the feeling,i was panickin too but theres no reason for that,it only makes things worse!

I'm so scared to be honest. I'm only 13 years old. and recently i had sex w/ a junior in high school. It was a HUGE mistake on my part. i just felt like i couldn't turn him down. but to get straight to the point i could be pregnant. he told me to take a morning-after pill..but..i don't have acess to one. also, i could have an STD. he said he doesn't have one. but he "gets around" alot and he's never had a test taken before. im always stressing about this what do i do? reader, anonymous, writes (7 April 2008): For an accurate result its 4 - 6 weeks, I've just double checked on the internet. I know, it seems an awful long time to wait, I understand exactly how you feel! It was probably the worst month of my life when I was waiting to take a test. It's just, you can get a false negative if you take it earlier than 4 weeks.

 If you are generally regular with your cycle and having your period and you do not get your period, then it would be fine to take a test. If you absolutely cannot wait that one week, there are tests out there that you can take up to five days before you are to expect your period.
Not every persons body is the same, the test relies on the production and detection of the pregnancy hormone. Some women will produce more of this hormone faster than others, however if you are highly concerned about this, it is suggested that you take a test and if you are still concerned to have a blood test taken at your local clinic if possible, this is a much more conclusive test and will give you a more conclusive answer.
Your best bet I would say, from experience is to take the test within the first week AFTER missing your period. If the test is negative, and you still do not get your period within the next week, you should go see a doctor to be tested.
Follow all the instructions on any home pregnancy test and read them carefully. They are pretty simple and will tell you everything you need to know to help you figure this situation out.
