A female United States age 26-29, anonymous writes:

There is too much female nudity on TV. There was a completely naked girl in a movie I watched with my BF last night AND the night before.

Why can they show female genitals? Not ok. It was disgusting. Hate it. No male nudity?

I was shocked, disgusted, and jealous

You did not see female genitals on US tv. You may have seen it on Netflix or Apple TV or another one of the pay services HBO etc but you did not see it on tv.

you saw it in a movie or a show on one of those services and the show came with a rating or a content warning and you continued to watch. Next time you see that R rating or the voice says "This program is intended for mature audiences only.' Hit that back button on the remote

Fatherly Advice agony auntI'm honestly chuckling at this line

"I was shocked, disgusted, and jealous"

I don't want to get into the history, politics, or psychology behind this. I just want to say that if you are Disgusted by female nudity, then you should share that emotion for male nudity. I share a kindle account with my wife. I'm currently reading a book written for 6th graders (12 year olds) I picked up my kindle the other night and the book advertised on the lock screen was "Mr. Perfect Next Door". I was well maybe not disgusted, but at least annoyed. It was inappropriate to my activity, but at the same time not inappropriate to my wife's reading history.

So maybe while I'm willing to chuckle at you, I'm a lot like you in that feeling, and, I could be more tolerant or more equal in my disgust.

I stopped watching films because of this. All films these days are naked women and violence its horrible. i refuse to watch any of it and never will again because i know thats all films will ever be these days the sexism is disgusting. And i find it insulting and embarassing to watch. Thank you for bringing up this subject because i never hear other women mention it and i was wondering why they find it acceptable

A female reader, Honeypie United States + , writes (26 April 2021):

Honeypie agony auntI have seen WAY more MALE nudity in the last maybe 10 years than ever before and about the same if not less female nudity. However, it depends on what you are watching.

I mean HBO? versus Hallmark?

You will be seeing WAY more nudity overall on HBO.

Also is female nudity disgusting? Since when? While I don't want to see Gyno-TV a bit of T&A never offended me, sometimes I find some shows focus TOO much on that and not enough of the actual storytelling and that is MY clue to not watch it.

Like WiseOwlE mentioned you get a warning BEFORE the movie/show starts so you already know what's coming. Then it's up to you to decide to watch it or Nah. No one is MAKING you.

And why is female nudity disgusting and male nudity isn't? Double standard much, missy?

Are there times where gratuitous nude women throw at the view more than the nude male? Yes. Absolutely. When MEN's bodies are used as an "eye-treat" he is rarely totally nude, he might have his shirt off doing something "manly" - think Mr. Darcy in the 1995 Pride and Prejudice. Where they ADDED 2 scenes so women could get an extra eye-full of Colin Firth - him jumping in the pond and him in a tub - neither scene was in the book so it was added for PURE sex appeal TO the female audience.

A topless man is actually common in movies. Ah, Superman :) they just HAD to add the scene with gorgeous Henry Cavill running around topless so we all could see his hard-earned 6 pack. Or Capt. America who had to be topless for his transformation?

Want me to go on?

If nudity or seminudity offends you, then be pickier in what movies you watch. I don't see it going away from the film industry anytime soon. whether YOU like it or not.

A male reader, kenny United Kingdom + , writes (26 April 2021):

kenny agony auntBefore the movie comes on it does give you the appropriate boxes informing the watcher of flashing images, violence, strong language, or nudity.

You say you hated it, it was disgusting, no male nudity. Would you be if there was male nudity then.

I think if you were on your own watching this you would not be posting this on DC. This is more about you did not want your boyfriend seeing naked women, and it aroused your insecurities.

I advise watching out for the beginning part of the film that says if there is nudity or not.

Also, i don't advise Game of Thrones as a boxet for you or your boyfriend.

You get warnings of nudity, foul language, smoking, a lot of violence, and etc. That's your cue not to watch.

There's been gratuitous nudity in movies for ions! Where have you been?

It often requires a X-rating for male frontal-nudity; although there are often R-rated movies with explicit warnings. If they give any of the warnings above, I recommend that you don't watch, if it bothers you.
