Does anyone else ever feel uncomfortable about their body like I do?

A female Australia age 26-29, *emiaria writes:

I'm 14 and have always felt rather self concious about chest size and body.

One of my friends is 13 and has at least DD while I'm only 32aa! I feel really awkward about wearing my school uniform because it has a strict 'no-figure' built in. I've heard that if you try an alter it, it just makes the dress and shirts look stupid. So I'm stuck with this problem:

I have no chest.

Even though I'm really thin, the school uniform doesn't show it and makes me look larger than average.

I have a tiny bit of an acne problem (which doesn't help confidence).

And to top it all off, I'm about to get braces! I've always felt uncomfortable about my smile but braces....darn, it's going to be awful.

When people do see that I'm skinny, they call me annorexic because everyone else I know is either a super thin asian friend (no, I'm not rascist!) or slightly to quite a bit bigger than average.

When I went down the beach with my friends a week ago they were all shocked at the fact I did have a bit of a figure and a flat stomach.

In fact, they wouldn't let up! It actually made me feel worse. I managed to stop any being posted on facebook because I really don't want the guys at my school to see me like that.

I have blonde hair to so everyone thinks I'm really stupid and makes fun of me. I'm not athletic either though I'm apparently "..Hyper-flexible." I want to learn to dance but I feel nervous about starting with 4 year olds.

Does anyone else ever feel uncomfortable about their body like I do?

You're lucky that you have a small chest...

But what the person above me said is right.

That's some good advice.

Learn to love the body you have, after all you only get ONE! ;)

k_c100 agony auntAll teenagers feel uncomfortable about their bodies, I know I felt horribly uncomfortable with myself when I was 14! Even the girls who have big boobs, or the popular girls, they are all feeling uncomfortable, they just dont show it!

I had big boobs when I was about 13/14, they were about a size 34D (UK size) and I hated them! They were not in proportion with the rest of my body and I didnt feel happy about having such a big chest at such a young age! I had puppy fat, I didnt have a good shape and my hair was awful (these were the days before hair straighteners!). I had acne, I didnt know how to do my make-up properly and overall I was a bit of a mess!

Generally all girls want to be a different body shape to what they have - girls with no boobs want boobs, girls with big boobs want smaller ones, curvy girls want to be skinny and skinny girls want to have more curves....etc. Generally us girls are cursed by always wanting to be something we are not!

But what we need to learn is that everyone is different, and we are all attractive in our own ways. Boys dont all like the same type of girl - there is no 1 body shape that is 'most' attractive to men. Some men like thin women, some men like curves, some men like big boobs, some men prefer long legs. Everyone is very different in what they like, which means that because everyone has a different body shape then there will always be at least 1 person who likes your body too! There is no point in comparing yourself to other girls, I'm sure the ones with their big boobs will be wishing they had your flat stomach! We are all beautiful, and the great thing about being human is that we dont all look the same and have unique features that make us special.

So learn to love what you have been given - yes you might not have big boobs but you are slim and have a flat tummy, many girls would kill to be like you! And remember this - being a teenager is the most awkward time of your life, it is never easy and you will feel uncomfortable for a few more years while your body is still developing. But once you come out of puberty, your body will be more in proportion, you will no longer have to wear unflattering uniforms (thank god!) and you will feel much happier with your shape. Your hormones will level out as you get older, and your metabolism may slow down a bit so you wont look quite so skinny and 'anorexic' as you say, you will fill out a little more and there are many more years left for your boobs to grow! You dont really stop developing until you are 18-21, so you have plenty of time!

Just remember, all girls are feeling the same way as you are but once you get to about 16-18, it all starts getting a bit better and you will be much happier with your body! And just because you are a bit different to some of the girls doesnt mean you are any less attractive, we are all beautiful because we are different, if we all looked the same then the world would be a boring place!

I hope this helps and good luck!
