A male Australia age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I think I have a crush on my friend's little sister. The problem is she's turning 13 and I'm turning 17. I have a feeling most people will dissaprove because of the age difference. What do I do?

A female reader, anonymous, writes (3 July 2008):

If I am to be perfectly honest with you, I will tell you that when i was fifteen i had a crush on an eleven - twelve (i'm not sure of his exact age, but i do know that he was in year seven - i'm british - while i was in year 9) and it was awful. He didn't even know i existed and he was starting to recognise girls in his year etc. But one thing I will always remember a teacher telling me was 'the boy hasn't gone through puberty, and therefore you are both on two different mental stages, heading for disaster before the relationship ever starts.' I am not saying don't ever have a relationship with this girl, but wait until she gets a bit older, and see if you still feel the same, also make sure that it's okay with your friend first, because if you hurt her, it may be the end of your friendship with your mate. Whatever you decide to do; good luck, and don't do anything stupid. x

ok well I don't disaprove i think first of all talk to your friend don't go in to detail he won't like that just ask him if he'd be ok with it you don't want to rewin the friend ship of coarse with her being young in his eyes he probuly will say no she is his little sister and be wants to protect her I'm not saying your not a good guy I'm just saying you two have probuly made dirty jokes or have checked out some women somwhere and he's gonna wanna keep his sister away from that so if its worth a friendship I say go for it 17 isnt as old as it sounds and when I was 13 I had a giant crush on a 17 yr.old so I'd say if you think its worth it go for it

Hope I helped

kaylam agony auntWell, my mother and step father are ninteen years apart. But your case is a lot different. I would say that if you do like her, you should probably wait until she's a little older to try to get together with her. It wouldnt be just akward, but you dont know how your friend would feel if you were to say that you liked their little sister, espically her being so young. I might add that it would be illegal..and you could go to jail if you got caught. So keep that in mind and good luck (:

A male reader, theOC United States +, writes (26 June 2008):

A general rule that I keep is to not date any of my friends' sisters. You're a bit older now and you should understand that there's a chance if you pursue this relationship and things go bad, your friendship may be lost.

However, the age difference between you two is noticeable (in my eyes) at that age. I personally think that you should back off and look for someone else.

I'm not sure if she feels the same way as you since you say that you have a crush on her, but if you both do like each other enough to take the heat from parents and possibly your friend, then there shouldn't be a problem with your relationship.

Just understand that she will be considered a minor for many years, whereas you are already considered an adult if it's 16, or soon to be an adult if it's 18. Best of luck to ya!
