Could I have erectile dysfunction from sitting on a bike saddle too much?

I'm 22 and I'm worried that I might have Erectile Dysfunction. Every now and then my penis just wont keep an erection. This really irritates my girlfriend. I have been spinning everyday for about a year and recently read online "A study in 2002 found that ED can also be associated with bicycling. The number of hours on a bike and/or the pressure on the penis from the saddle of an upright bicycle is directly related to erectile dysfunction."

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas, is it the bicyling or is it just something that will happen from time to time?

Hi,

I lived over in Holland and this problem is well known. If you continue bike riding, switch to one of the specially designed seats (they allieviate the pinching on the blood flow in the area). Switch from spin class to another form of excercise. If you want proof of the studies, go to Holland and see how cranky women "of a certain age" are - it's written on their faces. Aging takes its toll on a man and his erection, why help it out when you are so young? You have read that it's a problem - be pro-active!

Beckto agony auntActually, I heard the same thing about ED and prolonged bicycle use.

If you're unsure, go to a doc.

The study you mention is correct and is in keeping with what many cyclists know. There are anatomically configurated saddles which can help but rather costly. Try before you buy...Stand up in the saddle from time to time. Cross-train eg. run/ stair climbing.

I don't understand how your girlfriend can be intensely frustrated, occasional system hiccups are allowed. At least she has not got some slob who gets no exercise.

harshbutfair agony auntI think people forget that a penis, like its owner, will have off days. If you're a tennis player you'll have off days when you can't hit the ball for toffee. Similarly if you're in the game of sex you'll have times when you feel so large and hard and focused on your partner you feel like you'll blow her head off when you come..... and other days when you can hardly be bothered and wonder whether you've even got a half-hard-on.

Take pleasure from the good and solice in the bad because it keeps you human like the rest of us!
