A female reader, celtic_tiger United Kingdom +, writes (28 October 2010):

celtic_tiger agony auntAt 15 your body is still developing and is not fully matured. It is not ready for sex, it is not ready for childbirth. Many girls have irregular periods at this age and it is totally normal because they are still growing and developing.

HOWEVER You may still be pregnant. They usually say wait until your first missed period, or two weeks after conception. You dont say when you had sex. You should take at least two more tests over the next week to be sure, and if you are still in doubt go to the doctors and get them to do one. Better to be safe than sorry.

If you are going to be sexually active, you need to be responsible. From the sound of it, you are not responsible enough to be having sex. IF you are pregnant, you will have a lot to deal with. If not, you need to treat this as a warning, go to the doctors and get yourself on some contraception ASAP. The pill, the patch, the coil, injection.....there are MANY options that you dont have to think about, just remember to take every day. Can you be responsible enough to do that? Drinking and sex dont go together - they are an accident waiting to happen, and many teenagers end up pregnant and alone because of it, so if you cant control yourself when you drink, at least be prepared.

Sex is not a game, its serious. The fact you are also underage, with the legal age of consent in the UK being 16, also makes this more worrying. The fact your boyfriend(you dont say he is so I am assuming?) is 21 means he is actually commiting a crime by having sex with you. At 15, you cannot consent to sex, it is classed as RAPE and sexual activity with a child, because you are a child. He is a grown adult and should know better. The maximum jail term is 14 years. Bottom line, he should never have touched you.

I sincerely hope you are not pregnant and have been lucky this time so that you can learn and help yourself to not get in this position again.

You are still very young and have your whole life ahead of you. Do you want to go to college, go to university, travel the world on a gap year? If you have a baby in tow, all that will either be difficult or never happen, because you will have other responsibilities.

You only get one shot at being young, dont waste it thru irresponsible actions and drunken sex.

My question to you is why are you drinking when you think you may be pregnant?

I would go to a doctor and get a blood test if you are really afraid. That will be more accurate.

A female reader, DrPsych United Kingdom +, writes (28 October 2010):

DrPsych agony auntAlcohol does not interfere with the results of a pregnancy test. A pregnancy test looks for a specific hormone in your urine which is raised when you are pregnant (it is called Human chorionic gonadotropin or HCG for short). However, it is possible to have a false negative result if you test too early for pregnancy (meaning you are pregnant but the test comes back negative). Although most tests detect pregnancy after you have missed a period, in some women it can take a little longer for the hormone elevation to happen. Some pregnancy tests are also more sensitive than others. Go to the pharmacist and ask for an early detection test. As a side issue, too much alcohol consumption can interfere with your periods and fertility. It is also not that rare for teenage girls to have an irregular cycle and your periods can stop if you diet, abuse alcohol/ drugs, get stressed etc. I suggest that if you still don't have a period in a few weeks time, see a doctor for a blood test to check your hormones. You would also be wise to have a check for sexually transmitted infections since I am assuming you are having unprotected sex. Until you know if you are pregnant or not it is very important that you do not drink alcohol (especially excessive alcohol). If you are pregnant, alcohol interferes with foetal development significantly and is a major cause of complications. I think if you are not pregnant, you need to remember how 'worried' you are right now. It could have been avoided by not having sex (which may have been easier to control if you didn't use alcohol), or at least not having unprotected sex. If you are not pregnant it doesn't mean you won't be next time...so see a doctor to talk about contraceptive needs. Ok lecture over!

followtheblackrabbit agony auntYes, take another test and guess what, mothers who drink early in their pregnancy have a high risk of giving their infants horrible birth defects. Honey, what are you doing with a 21yr old...? *sigh*
